Is that one darkspawn (the smaller) female? The body proportions would suggest so.

I could be wrong, but I don't think darkspawn make females, thats why they have to capture females of other races for broodmothers

You are right, That's why I asked. The hips just seem quite broad and more skeletally feminine.

The Children are a different type of species from other darkspawn.

Are they?

I always thought they were, but all my friends; and the DA Wiki; kept saying that they were the 'Baby' forms of the 'normal' Darkspawn. I would love to prove them wrong.

Yep, totally separate breed.

From http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Children

The Children are born by the Mother, an unusually intelligent broodmother, which in turn was created by the Architect, whom she refers to as the "father". The Children usually sleep in large white cocoons unless they feel another living being nearby. If awoken, they emerge from their cocoon as childer grubs, their larval form. They then proceed to attack and devour their unfortunate prey, which in turn allows them to transform into the more advanced childer hatchling. As opposed to their worm-like larval state, the childer hatchling developed spindly feet and small claws, which make them more agile and stronger, even though their transformation is not yet complete. Upon gorging itself yet again, they transform into the fully grown adult childer. These horrifying creatures are stronger and even deadlier than all previous forms. Their claws have grown long and sharp, and their body is encased by a protective carapace, making them much harder to kill than a childer grub or hatchling. They are also frighteningly fast, adult childers are capable of speed unmatched by every other type of darkspawn. Other darkspawn also tend to avoid them, since the Children are not particularly picky about their food and will eat other dead or even living darkspawn, if given the chance. As of now, the best way to deal with the Children is to kill them while they are still in their larval form.

The proportions do suggest female, which just made me roll my eyes that the blasted thing was wearing typical female armor consisting of a sportsbra and skirt. If it WAS meant to be female, well... I guess even darkspawn girls have to do their part to sell sex appeal.

It'd be interesting if the reason for the lack of born female Darkspawn had to do with some sort of weird highly specific chromosonal damage so whatever it is that impregnates broodmothers can't produce that second x, and if born female Darkspawn started appearing because of something the Architect figured out in his research.

I don't remember there being any deserts in Fereldan. The Adamant Fortress sounds much more plausible.

A little known fact about the Darkspawn is that emissaries practice geomancy and are excellent landscapers.

That doesn't answer the question one way or the other at all. All that says is that the Mother gives birth to Children. It doesn't say that other brood mothers DON'T give birth to Children. I'd be highly surprised if only sentient brood mothers gave birth to them...

Yeah.

Although I would say that the Mother was more ... 'insecty' compared to the normal, squid-like BroodMothers encountered in DA:O and earlier in DA:A.

Though it could be entirely possible that Human BroodMothers look like the Mother and Dwarf BroodMothers look like the regular BroodMothers.

Children discussion is kinda unrelated to DA:I twitter stuff, but I'll just add that I think the children were unique to the Mother, because as I remember it people all over the place talked about them being a new, never before seen type of darkspawn. Then again the grey wardens kept quiet about Corypheus, so who knows what more information they keep away from the public?

Still, if you spared the architect the children might one day return. I always assumed that they were a side-effect of the mother consuming grey warden blood and "awakening". If the architect feeds other broodmothers with the same substance they might start making children aswell.

Sadly, my "German", "TheGood", and "BeauPeep" did not make the list. http://blog.bioware.com/2014/05/15/whats-in-a-name/

@PatrickWeekes I doubt I’ll ever top the one DA2 play where I had Chi’kan Hawke.

Hope they do one of these for DA2 as well, but I'm guessing the answers would be mostly the same.

Nifty, the faraway version of me likes Margaery enough to dedicate their avatar to her. Surely I'd have done the same had I not been uncharacteristically narcissistic enough to use a photograph of myself instead.

I bet we even both like Dragon Age. Do you like Dragon Age? I like Dragon Age!

Nope. Hate it. Oh well, the similarities were fun while they lasted.

I want the 1st encounter with drakspawn to be creppy and ''aww sh*t''. Like kind a when you in the dark creepy cave, with weird noises coming for the far end.

Part of why I was interested in the picture, and even if he was dead I always got the impression Darkspawn were always changing/evolving.
