So @SherylChee got sad, @bbattye made this little noise, @Sylvf1 almost cried, and @KarinWeekes called me an *******. WORKS AS DESIGNED
GODDAMMIT PATRICK
Killing off popular characters just because, like legion in ME3 doesn't induce sadness just annoyance.
sorry mark, what is " Cuz " ?
no mounted combat because 1. Not what the game is about. 2. They are a huge feature and we wanted to approach them carefully 3.
Just because you think they did it "just because" doesn't make it so.
But in the absence of any other information, a personal interpretation is the best we have. I can't see the writers sitting down to explain why they did everything, and so any standpoint - including the one that defends it as excellent storytelling - has to be based on assumptions.
The character deaths might have been done with the best of intentions, but we really have no idea. Short of bugging the writer's pit, how can anyone know why they do certain things?
(We *do* have a scrawled note from Mac that even asks himself why Shepard had to die, which hardly inspires confidence that it was a well thought-out plot device.)

Nevermind, I thought you messed up the copy/paste.

Except they hadn't. And the case in point was Legion's death. And we already knew you couldn't just copypaste a full-fledged AI.
Just because you believe it makes sense does not make it so.
I have a request. Could we keep the Mass Effect spoilers in spoiler tags? For those who haven't played the Mass Effect games yet. I mean, this is a Dragon Age forum. I myself have only played Mass Effect 2, and I am getting the full trilogy for my birthday in 11 days. I come here for Dragon Age Twitter-news, not Mass Effect-spoilers, and I'd very much appreciate it if those spoilers were kept in spoiler tags, which is what those things are here for in the first place. Thank you ![]()

Don't want to derail the thread but,
Granted this whole discussion is kind of pointless as we have not even a hint of a reason that they intend on making Morrigan tranquil.
Just because you believe it makes sense does not make it so.
It's not about what I believe, it's about the piece of game's lore. It was there from day one.

If you believe in that interpretation, yes. Again: we don't know what the writers were thinking.

But we don't have to know what they were thinking. We can just look at the game.

Considering this is their first game with mounts (are there moving mounts in SWTOR other tham the fliers?) and in a new engine...I'm glad they didn't try to also add in combat....personally I'd rather have the resources that would go into the development of mounted combat go into story, environments, characters, and quests.
Although a one-off story appropriate moment of mounted combat would be cool.
Regarding the sadness inducing writing by Mr, Weekes - that really doesn't have to do with death at all. Of any character. There are many ways to write a heartbreaking plot, without involving death.
For example, Donna's departure at the end of the 4th series of (the new) Doctor Who was one of the saddest TV moments I have ever seen. Even though she's alive and (arguably) well, and she's even reasonably happy - the loss she suffers (especially as she's unaware of it), is heartbreaking.

I'm trying to think of heartbreaking moments that gave me feels in the ME and DA games that didn't invlove death.
The only thing that possibly comes to mind for me is the Dalish Warden walking away from her clan. (I played her as not wanting to leave no matter what until Duncan pretty much said something about being hauled away like a sack of potatoes or somesuch)
Otherwise the ones I can think of all invloved someone dying (and those usually illicit big sloppy tears from me. Especially a renegade shep and mordin....Noooo!!!! Where's the tissues??)
