if you are invading ferelden and just go straight to denerim from north route you will soon find that ferelden forces will flank you from redcliffe.

just saying.....

Looking at the map, I don't think that makes much sense.  It's too far away.  Any general that cautiously minded would never get anywhere because they'd be obliged to conquer every country inch by inch

And anyway, with the prospect of reinforcement and supply by sea, a march along the coast looks less risky to me than a march into Fereldan's interior to

...to be flanked by reinforcements coming from the west and thus get between two armies. Doesn't look a solid strategy to me.

The northern route cuts directly through the mountains (Orzammar is right there). While it may be possible for individuals or small groups to traverse a mountain pass, marching an army along one is another matter.

And... where does that info come from exactly? Gherlen's Pass is the only safe route to cross the Frostback Mountains for year-round travel (World of Thedas mentions that), and that's where the Imperial Highway goes. Sulcher's Pass is shorter and more to the south, but it is also more treacherous. And those two are the only passes through Frosbacks that I'm aware of.

Could somebody please explain how the route through castle Redcliffe is the *sole* land route to Ferelden? Judging by the map one could easily go north of Lake Calenhad on the Imperial Highway and leave Redcliffe along with its castle way south...

It seems to be an issue with the map. Here's the other version:

Spoiler

Redcliff dominates Gherlen's pass, which is apparently the only way through the Frostback mountains.

Yes, I see that as the only explanation, as the codex entry is old and might correspond with this old map. I just hoped that it was not another inconsistency with new map - old lore and had some explanation that I missed.

The German DA Facebook page has an additional view of Redcliffe...

The light in that new picture is amazing! And the flora, and the ruins... I fear my inquisitor will be too busy admiring the landscape to save the world.

I don't remember this being in DAO either.

Also that statue looks really creepy.

I'm guessing since the areas are bigger in Inquisition we'll go to the outskirts of Redcliffe as well, instead of just being in the city.

I made this comment before, but I'll reiterate it. I don't anticipate that anything in the new "old" areas will be recognizable outside of the most intentional and obvious examples. That's just the nature of the new technology and world design philosophy.

Sounds like a great deal of emphasis on Redcliffe. Makes me doubt Denerim's appearance even more than before. But I don't really mind. Redcliffe making it in (as seemed likely from a while back, but still) probably means at least one populated settlement that isn't Inquisitorial.

Too bad we won't see Murdock again (his VA died). I actually liked him quite a bit. I would still like to see some old face in the Frostbite engine.

That Hinterlands letter indicated that quite a few people left Redcliffe after the Blight to get away from the bad memories of beig hounded by corpses, so I imagine Redcliffe village won't be terribly populated not matter how successful we were in Origins.

Well, the description of Redclliffe in Witch Hunt indicates the Bannorn is increasingly looking to it for guidance.  And at some point it may overtake Denerim in importance.

Maybe there's going to be a male/female version for the new trailer?

Hm, I don't think it'll be a trailer. Gameplay demos, more likely.

I reckon they might even have two separate demos prepared - one to show on stage, and one to show with Geoff Keighley afterwards.

(The cynic in me thinks they'll use the male Inquisitor for the stage demo and the female version for Game Trailers.)

Ugh, Geoff Keighley... that douche bag is so lame. Wish they would get anyone but him for the demo reveal.
