Aaryn just tweeted this as well, but the PAX demo had a recorded voice. When referring to the Synthesized voice he was referring to the text to speech during development before lines are properly recorded.

(Note: The voice is often unintentionally hilarious)

Given what we were hitting at the time, it was pretty much the most inappropriate noise that could have played. Hilarious, but inappropriate.

Editing literally means 'we are trimming them and making them fit in a specific format because that is what you do with videos'.

You can believe what you want, I ain't gonna stop you, but that's the extent of that.

Hope Bioware's definition of soon is different than Telltales.

That it may be is no guarantee that it's in the way that you'd want it to be ;)

As I remember from the PAX demo, it was a red sword, too. But not too sure about that.

Hm, it does. Wonder if it changed since those t-shirts, or if the red sword is only on some Inquisition items?

The shirts are quite a bit older now too.  They still call the game Dragon Age III: Inquisition too.  So it wouldn't surprise me if those types of things have changed.

Random but..they're not doing sprint review days anymore are they?

They're still doing them, but they seem to be much quieter affairs these days than they were in the past.

Sprint Reviews still happen, though it's less of a full day event now.  Usually it's just an hour long or so, with the whole team getting together to check out some videos each department has made up to see how things are progressing.

I would really love it if they brought back The Children. Those fully grown forms were horrific and way scarier than big spiders.

fun fact about the Children: as I recall, we couldn't get the extra limb part hiding to work in time, so all the extra parts they grow are tucked up inside their bodies when they're running around, and then they switch to a different set of animations with the limbs popped out when they transform.

Do you happen to remember who designed the Children, the Architect and the Mother? Their designs had quite a different feel from the rest of Dragon Age (at that point).

you'd have to check the credits for character and concept art; I was pretty far down in the engineering of the thing on Awakening.

It's just something fun we've done since Origins. I think someone asked us to describe the characters and we ended up comparing them to food. For instance, Wynne was oatmeal with raisins.

"Surprise" meatballs? What are "surprise" meatballs if not just meatballs?

Inside joke.

We were having a party, and everyone brought food/snacks. One friend brought a plate of meatballs, but put them on the table where all the chocolate was.

So everyone who grabbed a meatball and popped it in their mouth suddenly made a face as if it was disgusting. Eventually, the friend got frantic. "Are my meatballs really that bad?" They weren't bad at all. It's just that, if you're expecting chocolate and receive meatball...it's a surprise.

Wouldn't it suck if there wasn't any new information in the Dev diaries at all. It was just a bunch of, "Oh, this what I do, and this how I make the game, with my coffee in one hand and my pet nug Rambo perched on my desk, and I like chocolate covered coffee beans quite a bit. DAI? Oh sorry, we can't talk about that feature just yet. But soon! ...What? No, I can't talk about that feature, either. Sorry. But soon!"

That'd be lovely, frankly. This industry has a habit of perpetuating a laser-like focus on the people working at the very top of the leadership pyramid. I'd love to see some mid-level (and low-level!) folks talk about what they do and what they like about what they do, about their interests and work history and how they solve problems.

The Irrational closure has got me thinking a lot about the folks actually scripting events, lovingly rendering crates, and copy-editing the codex entries who tend to get lost in the shuffle.

I understand my opinion might differ from a lot of yours here but I don't really care to know more about what DA:I will be like. It will be what it will be. I'm a lot more interested in the office culture and people involved in these games.

My office consists of me parkouring along a wall into my titan, lighting up an opponent while a friend rodeos it and other gleefully rips said pilot out of that titan, to boisterous cheering.  Or at least it did... :crying:   (eagerly awaiting March 11)

In general, bring your sass pants when entering office 546. ;)

I was thinking that too.  It's an interesting cultural phenomenon that because of the existence of hearts, it must be romantic/love related.  I sit back and soak up the sociology!

No, that's not the case.

Originally,, DA:O was planned to not have any Origins, but to have one starting story of a refugee of Lothering, running from the Blight. In a nutshell, DA:O was supposed to be about Hawke.

Then, there was the planned expansion pack to DA2, The Exalted March, which was supposed to focus (according to rumor) on the fallout of the Mage/Templar war. This was scrapped and, instead, rolled into DA:I.

Never was the story of DA2 supposed to be about the Inquisition.

It was mentioned on the forum before (at least by me, and possibly by David as well) that Inquisition was originally slated to be the sequel, but then we started working on Exodus which was to be a bridge between the two games (and a smaller, more experimental game, which I think we didn't do as well as we could have).  Exodus then became Dragon Age 2 and much of it is history.

Though without DA2, it's entirely likely that much of what we have for DAI in terms of story content could be different since it's not like the entire plot arch was detailed out.

The details of each narratives may or may not have belonged in the other game, but that was so long ago now and the point is simply that the sequel to DAO was original a game titled "Dragon Age: Inquisition" which, for a variety of reasons, we changed over to Dragon Age: Exodus which eventually was named Dragon Age 2.

How it that likely? Just because you had the thought doesn't mean it's correct.

Because it's what he thinks based on what he saw. It doesn't preclude you from disagreeing.

I'd prefer this not get into a semantics debate over people having different opinions and assumptions.

Because it's a qualifier. He doesn't just think it's a possibility, he feels that the evidence and logic makes it a strong possibility for him. It's still a supposition, however. Just one that he feels more strongly about than wording such as "could be" or "may be."

There is evidence as well. It could be circumstantial, but depending on the assumptions that he makes as to whether or not that original concept art was originally created under the guise of being for a game called "Inquisition" rather than Exodus/Dragon Age 2, it's a consistent logical deduction.

That said, the logic could still be refuted with more information. For him the pieces fit together well enough to feel that the imagery is likely related.

User:

If DAI has a collectors edition it should come with a cloth map. The one in Dark Souls 2 looks rad!

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw :

Cloth maps are awesome. Still have mine from Ultima III.

I see one, but it could be because I have some moderator access?  It's along the bottomr row just to the left of "Quote" and the likes.  If it's not there, let me know.

I'm guessing you're getting the cloth map with Dark Souls 2 considering how much you raved on about Dark Souls? :P

(Haha, I almost clicked "Report" because I was looking for "Reply."  Quote it is!!!)

Probably not, actually.  I'm a huuuuuuuuuuge fan of digital because I have a tendency to let physical stuff create copious amounts of clutter in my home.
