Not to argue, but party banter is a really small thing. It's definitely something you dont find in other RPGs, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's what sets Bioware games apart as in defines them. I like it and plan on not using mounts, too (at least while exploring new areas), but it's simply not that important.
I'm not actually sure I'd agree with this. I think the presence of party banter is actually one of the defining features of DA (honestly, it isn't really present in other Bioware games), and it's one of the most simple ways that the party members are brought to life as more than just whatever they show you in the camp/keep/house/etc. Think specifically about DA and how much we learn about the party members purely through banter. Little things like Carver's crush on Merrill, Wynne's skill at identifying the ingredients of Oghren's ale, Fenris and Isabela's thing in act 3. Not only is party banter one of the key ways DA makes its characters feel like 1) characters in their own right, and 2) part of a cohesive unit or group, its actually something that's relatively unique to DA as a franchise. Honestly, the only thing that really comes close to approximating it are the skits in the Tales of series of JRPGs. It doesn't really exist in other Bioware games, let alone other RPG franchises.
