So, anyone remember how Jessica Merizan made an Off-Topic subforum thread asking what we wanted to be called since it's no longer BSN, making us no longer BSNers?

Seems "Scuttlebutters" won...  :?

Inbox at a manageable state, all well w/ my Forum Scuttlebutters, the house is finally clean. Time to download... pic.twitter.com/uxVCMUtOWa

Nothing won ;) Just trying different things out! If you want to contribute an idea, leave a comment hereeeeeee.

Oooh Jessica has been called out. There's only one way to settle this... a Cosplay off!

I will probably procrastinate until the last minute and the sob on the floor for awhile and then use loads of paint to battle damage something until it looks acceptable. It's all about picking costumes where looking totally messed up is a feature not a bug :P

Also, performance self-reviews were due on Monday and Fernando is my manager so those tweets make me wonder why I didn't get a Beta invite.

Multiple rounds of applause during the frostbite video. This will make DAI play and look even better than we had planned #sprintreviewday

I'm very excited about some stuff for sure, that'll just provide some workflow improvements to help out with performance assessments, rapid iteration, and stuff like that.  At one time I said "Oh yes.... oh yes...." :P

Okay, question. When they say off-hand weapons were they talking about weapons in your inventory or referring to an off-hand slot?

It is now possible to properly equip and unequip weapons in your offhand (the mechanics of dual wield combat existed, but you only had an offhand weapon if you started with it or did some debug console hackery).

More just that he misspoke.  When I first read the tweet I read it as "demonstration" too.

I did a google search for it and... you're pretty much on the nose. It's for making characters look towards a specific spot smoothly.

That's exactly what it is.  Procedural way to allow participants of a conversation (or a cutscene in general) to quickly and appropriately look at a target (typically the person they are speaking to, but not always).

The CinDesigners like JEpler can then go in and make tweaks if they feel it's necessary, but for most of the conversations that isn't really necessary.  Tends to include subtle things too such as minor offsets so that if 4 people all turn to face the target, they don't all turn at the exact same time which is super uncanny valley inducing.

Had this happen during MoTA, everyone's head turned to Tallis simultaneously, then did a complete rotation exorcist style.

Haha, well the joys of doing it procedurally is that sometimes something funky can happen <.<

Is this tech restricted to cutscenes only? Because I feel it could be used to make things more immersive (for example the Inquisitor walks through a village and the people turn to look at him and react appropriately. If he's done evil things they cower in fear or if he's a saint they smile and sing the Inquisition's praises and so on).

Just a thought.

Well, the way it worked in DAO and DA2 was a system that was more specifically utilized in the conversation editor and in the cutscene editor.  So in that sense, it certainly didn't exist in DAO or DA2.

That said, I do know that the current Frostbite cinematic timeline editor is a lot more flexible than the one in Eclipse, particularly in the fact that those cinematics can fire while the player still retains control of the character.  Unless they've leveraged the head look system in other ways (that I'm not aware of), it could still be set up so that if the Inquisitor walks past, cindesigners can create full sequences by ambient NPCs.  So yes, the system in place does make it possible for the Inquisitor to walk past an area, and the people take a moment to stop what they are doing to acknowledge/comment on the Inquisitor.

Given how the cinematic timeline situation works, it's also possible to gate the responses based on plot states while the player still has control of the character.

There can be some advantages to this, in that the cindesigners won't need to worry as much about things like camera placements and so forth, though it'll still have issues in that it's time consuming so having complex ones happen a lot probably won't happen.  But it is possible to make prefabs of common situations so that they can be placed in different areas that have common themes.

The text in the pic says Solace is one of two new companions revealed.

Interesting.

Just FYI, however, it's Solas. Not Solace. Not sure where they got that.

And, since this seems to be a persistent notion: Solas is not the "Dorian" from the survey. He was never that character. As to who Solas is... well, I suppose you'll all have to wait and see.

News that he's a Dreamer is interesting...

Err... I'm going to just suggest that people wait until they either read the article proper, or wait for something in their own language.

Simply throwing that out there.

May I suggest that, if you want to talk about any of the recent information, you move it to a new thread? This is a twitter thread, after all, not the "discuss anything you feel like" thread. If it turns into that, we'll simply close it down.

He said they "would consider releasing the name of who wrote them."

I did consider.

Maybe later, when we've done more of an official release on the character.

I don't remember seeing this posted here, so this is Matt Rhodes response on his tumblr blog to the whole whitewashing Vivienne thing (posted on the 23rd):

http://mattrhodesart...732359/vivienne

Matt posted that with some assumptions that were incorrect (which he later realized himself) though.

http://mattrhodesart.tumblr.com/

The latest posts talk more about that (and I'd rather this thread not get too derailed discussing it as it got pretty heated in tumblrverse)

Interesting.

Although it's disappointing that Mae won't be in the game - she was an awesome character in the comics - David is being admirably upfront about the realities of the timeframes, and it's better to let people know now rather than have them fruitlessly hope for another six months or whatever.

(It's interesting to note that character concepting needs to be done so early, actually - I suppose the process from initial ideas to a high-poly game model takes way longer than I imagined)

And I do hope they have other trans characters, and other characters from Tevinter.

Writing is some of the earliest work.  It's also why it is often "cut" work, since it's typically cut not because writing is behind, but because the downstream game creation can't properly support what was written (often for technical or time reasons).  If we want to have anything more than a token appearance with limited substance, it needs to be earmarked much earlier in the process.  Writing her in now would not only create work for the writers, but also localization, cinematics, character art (and probably concept art) and possibly other design elements depending on how she is used.

At this point, it would definitely only be possible at the expense of something else (and perhaps several things) to include Maevaris.
