I wonder if this thread will manage to reach 200 pages before The Great Reveal?

Lol, it'll probably be well beyond 200 at this rate!

I remember the same question coming up for 100 pages as well. How little we knew then... Image IPB

Commander Kurt...

They want to do a reveal that leaves no one guessing, that's the goal, and, presumably, the whole point of keeping us waiting. The reveal could still end up being a flashy CGI teaser and a few screen-shots (and I wouldn't really care, hell, it's the game I'm interested in, not the marketing).

My thoughts exactly.

We definitely don't want to do just some simple CGI trailer.

A gameplay demo would be nice, I guess it's also a way to show off the shinyness (and fireballs) in-engine rather than have everyone screaming that CGI doesn't reflect actual gameplay.

A CGI trailer and the devs do a chippendale show to boost morale?

Kidding.

I was thinking we will probably get a dev diary video , with gameplay features etc...
Those can be pretty cool , and can get a heavy rotation on youtube.
I remember a picture of a filming setting with the green screen thing...I think it was for a Mark Darrah interview...
But they could do those videos like some kind of episodes ....or streaming game session but those are more tricky , tends to look less professional .

I know they are useless, but I LOVE cgi trailers. (when done well) Blizzard are an example of some of the best in the business for it. For DA:I, I don't think we would do a CGI trailer as first/only reveal, hence the whole "show not tell". A CGI trailer would be more tell.

--side note, no #sprintreviewday this sprint. To busy with the con's, holidays, and milestone planning.

Next one I assume will be around 19th or 26th.

SWTOR's CGI trailers were also pretty incredible.

Thanks for the sprint news :)

I am rather fond of them myself. And yes, Blizzard is at the top of the game. The TESO trailer was so amazing, one had to actually question if it was real actors.

My big gripe with CGI trailers is when they end up looking far better than the actual game. Like with WoW or TOR or even both Dragon Age games- they have great looking CG trailers yet the actual game doesn't look anything like whats presented in those trailers, from a visual fidelity standpoint. That always seems disingenuous to me. Whereas a game like Battlefield might have a CG trailer but those games look great. Or even something like Bioshock can have a CG trailer, but its kept in the same stylized visual fashion of the actual game.

To be honest the CGI Trailers are the only part I love about Blizzard games. I really wish I could play the game in the Mists of Pandaria Cinematic Trailer.

As for DA:I, much as I love CGIs too, I really want to see the Show not Tell approach too. Its a good call.

Honestly, I think the Dragon Age and TOR CGI trailers blow Blizzard's away. That TOR debut CGI trailer was freaking incredible. It made me want to watch a full movie of just that. And the Sacred Ashes and DA2 CGI trailers were amazing.

In a way I agree, but I also don't view them as promises of what the game will look like. It's like when movie trailers show exciting footage that doesn't make it into the theatrical cut. It gets you excited to see the movie, but it was never a promise.

I just know that when I saw Soul Eater's fourth intro with Soul holding Maka's lifeless body I was like whaaaaaat and then that never happened in the whole fourth season. Pretty misleading.

Sooo, I guess w/the Xbox thing in late April--which coincides quite snugly w/ the World of Thedas book--we're gonna be getting a DAI bonanza in late April?

CGI trailers that show better graphics than the game aren't ideal to be me at all.

But trailers that show outcomes, events or gameplay that aren't in any way shape or form possible or present is infuriating. It is like a car commercial that shows a car with a sunroof that doesn't offer a sunroof option. It is frustrating.

I like gameplay trailers and CGI trailers. The Destiny trailer and Sacred Ashes trailer for DA were amazing in my opinion. The Assassin's Creed series shows off some awesome CGI trailers and gameplay trailers and that is something I love about the franchise.

Ahhh more excitment!

I wonder if that will really be it? GDC is soon right?
Do games often get announced at GDC?

GDC is from March 25 to March 29, if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't expect anything, though: they weren't ready to show DAI off during PAX, why would they be one day later at a different convention?
