Why, in the name of al things logical, would Bioware reveal their game at GDC? Very few games are revealed at this conference - after all it is the Game Developer's Conference. Not the "Fans Who Will Buy Our Game Conference." The only reveals there are huge, industry shaking titles.

DA3 would be playing EA's second-fiddle to Battlefield 4, the reveal of the next level of Frostbite 2 graphics and gameplay. And they announced that weeks in advance. Why would they keep DA3 as a secret if EA is already revealing a game that uses Frostbite 2, especially if they are planning an in-depth reveal of all features, gameplay and experience?

I wouldn't even say "don't hold your breath" for the chance of this happening. It's not going to happen. If they were to reveal DA3 anywhere near this timeframe, it would have been at PAXEast, a con that has tons of fans and which Bioware has had a long history with. It wouldn't have been at the conference for other game developers.

Gaider already said they weren't going to do a reveal at GDC so why are we even having this conversation?

I knew Gaider said he would be there, doing a panel on sexuality in video games, if I remember correctly...

If he did say it wasn't going to happen, then there you go. End of discussion. Everyone please chill out at least until mid-April.

Mid April? You mean June, theres pretty much zero chance that DA3 will be revealed prior to E3 if its not shown at GDC.

Here is the link of him saying it by the way:

Indeed. GDC is a developer conference where I'll be talking to other developers. If someone doesn't care for the topic, my suggestion would be to not pay attention to it (if GDC talks are even available to the public; I'm not sure they are). GDC certainly wouldn't be the place to go and advertise upcoming releases, at any rate.

I believe the situation with PAX was that DA3 just wasn't in a 'player friendly' form. I'm sure development is coming along fine but it's likely they haven't put it together in a presentable way.

PAX generally has hands on sessions for games, sometimes hands off. So my theory is that DA3 just isn't in a state to be played by fans or shown to tons of people.
I'm not as skeptical as some of the people here who think DA3 is majorly behind schedule. I think it's doing fine but they've prioritizied it differently meaning it won't be 'show' ready until a later time. Hopefully soon.

Another developer: Thanks Mike! Bummed you’re not hanging out with us at GDC!

Mike Laidlaw: I hear you. Good time for me to be back in the studio, though.

(Link: https://twitter.com/...308637742145536)

Sounds like some important developments on DA3 will occur around this time thus the necessity for Mike to be back in the studio :) Hope this means the game is moving along.

Now would be a good time to point out: you don't have to reveal your game at a conference. In fact, in a year where conferences are going to be monopolized by big name consoles, it might be best not to announce at a conference and risk getting overshadowed. Sometimes you don't want to announce at an E3.

Now on to my suspicion...DA3 is planned to be a launch title on one or both consoles and as such they may be waiting on another announcement outside of their control (which has interesting implications to say the least...it wouldn't be the first time BioWare has made deals)

I just don't see Dragon Age being a console seller. It doesn't have the biggest fan base compared to many other series that end up being launch titles.

I mean, you could be right but I just don't think THAT is the reason why they're holding off.

Does anyone have videos are info at what was discussed on the World of Thedas panels? Surely they mentioned some things about the game. I mean, they did last year...

And even if they didn't, I'd still be interested in seeing the discussions.

...really?

DA:O sales estimates are around 4 million. A game like Battlefield blows that number out of the water with their XBox sales ALONE. Then you compare it to the last title in the series, DA2, which estimates say barely broke 2 million.

It ain't a console mover. If DA3 comes out on next gen only, it won't sell nearly as strong as a cross-gen title. If it is a next-gen console EXCLUSIVE (as in, only coming out on the XBox Durango, for example), it will be crippling for the franchise. The only thing I can see working if the game was an exclusive would be a PC/next-gen exclusive release with a current gen port coming out three-six months later. Preferably, the exact opposite schedule would be the case (current gen first, with an enhanced PC and next gen version released a few months later) but either way... doing a next gen release alone is QUITE risky, unless the new consoles are going to be giving the game away free with new purchases.

The fact that EA is going to be showing off Battlefield 4 tomorrow, which is a cross generational game, shows that they're not necessarily waiting for MS to show off their console in late April. Unless Dragon Age specfically has some MS exclusive deal, which seems insane.

So presumably EA is just working on their own schedule with respect to when they're going to start marketing their games.

Imagine a scenario where BioWare has a deal with Microsoft similar to the deal Bethesda has with them...initial release on Xbox, other platforms follow.  I'm not saying that's something I want, I'm just giving a hypothesis about one reason to not reveal at Pax East and still be on track for a 2013 release.

If I could make DA3 a PC-exclusive game that doesn't release until it's over 100 hours long on a single-playthrough even if it is delayed to 2016 I would...:?....I so would...

Skyrim came out at the same time on all platforms. The following DLC has so far been exclusive to Xbox for some time.

I agree about wishing DA3 was PC Exclusive. PC releases are always so much more simple, but I don't think they'd make enough revenue from the PC alone.
Regardless, I hope they keep PC in mind for Dragon Age 3. Not only do I want it to look better but I want it to play well on PC as well. It would also be nice to continue the support shown with DAO and DA2 to some degree(the texture pack is genuinely good).

A night of rest and relaxation before the rest of the #BioWare crew show up for #GDC2013, from then it all gets messy.

Got a feeling that this is it :wizard:

*Screams and Fails Arms in Excitment* Even though I think DA3 will be revealed at the Xbox event I am still holding out hope :o

If this is (whch I hope it is) i bet the DEV's were all having gigglefits when we were all "IT HAS TO BE PAX! IT'S GOING TO BE PAX!" and they were like "it's the next day!" :P

If GDC is not it, then im going with a Gameinformer reveal :o

Ohh, a new page with new possibilities ^_^

Sweet Maker a game informer cover would be EPIC!!! :o

Capcom seems to value rpgs or they wouldn't approved Dragons Dogma. There's still Bethesda and Skyrim, although I don't know how much they've sold. I assume they'll do a reveal at E3.

Someone on the team said E3 was to late for a reveal... I suspect Xbox or the game informer cover. My biggest and most unrealistic hope is at GDC.

EA's Chief Financial Officer in fact said that they'd be revealing and marketing several next-gen games between now and E3.
