Character Profile: Dorian.
So he is written by David!
Does this basically solidify him as an LI?

I just read through it and indeed yes Dorian is gay ![]()

Actually, I think they are specifically avoiding solutions that are unquestionably the "correct" answer.
Consider the Werewolves questline in Origins. You have basically three options.
1) Kill all the elves, siding with the werewolves. (Even though the elves were not responsible for the curse, just one of them)
2) Kill all the werewolves, siding with the elves. (Even though the werewolves are not to blame for their anger at the elves)
3) Lift the curse, everyone lives, happily ever after. Even Zathrien seems content with this ending.
OBVIOUSLY choice 3 is the "correct" one. The ideal, perfect ending. And that makes the other two options MEANINGLESS. There's no real point in choosing sub-par options except for pure roleplaying purposes.
But if the choice between the two is actually difficult ... if both have their pros and cons ... if both are largely equal in good and bad ... well, now THAT is an interesting, well-written decision point. And I believe the devs feel the same way.
I thought role playing purposes are the meaning of a role playing game?
also i really wish that scenario had a option to kill both the elves and warewolves then raise them as undead and use them as shock troops ![]()
[DG]: Dorian is gay—he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I've had the opportunity to write.
Well, I'm both happy and sad. I saw this coming so I braced myself for it well, but I would've still liked to romance him with a female character. ![]()
Happy he's a romance for male inquisitors though.
Edit: On second thought, he's not actually confirmed as a romance, is he?
[DG]: He enjoys using his magic and doesn't see any reason why he should be ashamed about it. So he unleashes his full power when it's needed… and he has plenty of power to unleash, seeing as he comes from a society where mages are trained to use it rather than hide it. This includes powerful elemental spells, as well as spells involving the control of spirit and the dead—things societies outside of Tevinter might turn up their noses at and claim "distasteful."
Hmm... Necromancer confirmed I guess.
Dorian as m/m option confirmed then! I'm ecstatic, not really because he's gay, but because we know. There's probably more than one fangirl tear being shed though, even I'm a little miffed at not being able to romance him as a female, but at least now I know for sure what gender my first PC will be!
"Dorian is gay"
I freakin' knew it!
I'm NEVER wrong when it comes to these things! ![]()
Sweet googly-moogly!
A character kit and an interview.
*cheers to DG writing Dorian*
Friday is turning out to be awesome!
[DA]: Dorian's sarcasm must create some rather interesting banter with other members of the Inquisition. Any personal favorite combinations stand out for you?
[DG]: I think I enjoy his relationship with Vivienne the most. They're complete opposites and will tear into each other viciously—or, at least, that's what it looks like to outsiders.
- This should be fun. ![]()

Going by how he is gay, mostly likely,I doubt there is going to make another male companion gay.
Controlling the dead? Guess we got our little Necromancer.
Hmm... Necromancer confirmed I guess.
Seems that way. Which seems to lead credence to the "Each companion is associated with a particular specialization" theory.
[DG]: Dorian is gay—he is, in fact, the first fully gay character I've had the opportunity to write. It added an interesting dimension to his back story, considering he comes from a place where "perfection" is the face that every mage puts on and anything that smacks of deviancy is shameful and meant to be hidden. Dorian's refusal to play along with that façade is seen as stubborn and pointless by his family, which has contributed to his status as a pariah.
[DA]: Are you happy with how his character turned out?
[DG]: I suppose this aspect of Dorian will make him controversial in some corners, but I was glad to include it. It made writing Dorian a very personal experience for me, and I'm hopeful that will make him seem like a fully realized character to fans in the end.
[DA]: After listening to Mary Kirby talk about Vivienne's power, we're not so sure that's Dorian's wisest move.
[DG]: Really, they find it good fun, and they'll go from arguing to banding together in order to criticize someone else in a cold second—like the Statler and Waldorf of Thedas. I love that.
[DA]: Having a Qunari around has also got to yield some strange interactions.
[DG]: Dorian's relationship with the Iron Bull is interesting. The Qunari have been at war with the Tevinter Imperium for centuries, after all, and the fact that neither Dorian nor Iron Bull are typical of their people makes for an intriguing arc.

Creators, thank you!
Dorian is gay
I knew it since I have seen him for the firts time. My Male PC will be Happy.
Not surprised but good for DG. But still unfair with this romance info both gay men woman have a li just for them. While straight men women don´t have none yet just one sided to me. Just asking for equal info.
DANG IT. I really love to have a nice, clean, "one of each class" party: One rogue, one mage, one warrior.
But...

I refuse to miss out on Dorian/Vivienne banter.

Is that such a bad thing? If he is the gay option (god willing, i'm planning to romance him on first play through with my male elf mage), I'm so glad that he seems to have personality and swagger and hasn't been made bland and inoffensive and politically correct ala Cortez. There's nothing wrong with characters with stereotypical qualities as long as they are rounded out and given depth. Flamboyant guys are hot.
I'm both fine with both types, and annoyed by both types, in different ways.
Part of me wants Dorian to be hetero just to go "YES EVERYONE, there's non-effeminate gay guys out there. Really really. And effeminate straight guys. Really really."
Part of me wants Dorian to be ****** (wonder if that will be censored) just to go "YEP! HE'S OUT THERE. Take it or leave it!"
EDIT: Caught up, woops!
m/m Dorian romance!!! :DDDD
