Solas seems really cool. I like the fact that his appearance would lead you to believe he's the most unassuming person in Thedas, but he's potentially one of the most powerful mages because of his unrestricted ability to learn magic and pursue further knowledge and secrets. At this point I think he'll be my party's go-to mage.
Would pick him over Dorian and Vivi any day.

Is Solas Dalish or city elf? He looks Dalish, but a Dalish wouldn't need to be self-taught right?

Solas is not Dalish (no vallaslin), although he grew up in a small village, not city. Has met Dalish while traveling, tho.

"Hedge mage" would be a pejorative for mage who lacks Circle training. Not talking combat much yet, but he has some tricks.

Solas is an introvert, so he's not loudly sassing everyone. But people might realize they got insulted a half hour later.
Solas sounds like an interesting companion based on the interview. He's at least going to be my mage-quisitor's BFF at this rate, and I quite like it that he's a free-thinker. However, as I said in another thread, I'm going to have to give him a bit of a style makeover. It's probably time to start planning for an Orlesian shopping spree!

Well... didn't they say we can have a garden at the Keep? This would be perfect.
Some of these tidbits (i.e.: "He has some tricks") sound to me like companions will have unique trees again (I liked them).
I think this may be the first DA where I have trouble deciding who to take with me...*sigh*
I know what you mean - in DA:O I tended to have Leliana, Wynne/Morrigan and Sten/Shale (depending on the class of my Warden)
In DA:2 it was pretty much Isabela, Aveline and Merrill/Varric.
The only time I ever switched out was to hear party banter or if a particular quest needed a certain companion.
This time around it seems like it is going to be so hard to choose.
