I found the fanart in question and it is indeed horrendous. Yech.

Even if you ignore the racist implications, I just don't get this urge to "fix" characters by changing their skin colour even from a practical standpoint. It always looks terrible. That goes for the people who tried that crap with Dorian, Vivienne AND Sera.

Why make a serious response to this when it done just to get a rise out of people?

 

Because it's not always done to get a rise out of people. People use mods to make Isabela white (with blond hair and blue eyes). There's already fanart of white Vivienne, too. Even golden white Alistair and kinda tan Zevran have morphs that make them paler and more "attractive". It's been an issue with BW games for years, so even if the image that spurred Epler's comments was done "just to get a rise out of people", it's something that needs to be said over and over and over again until people stop whitewashing brown characters, both maliciously and incidentally.

I've never whitewashed a character(don't approve of mods at all let alone alter mods), but I've never seen these reasons often enough to implicate everyone who does it as why they are doing it. *shrugs*

BSN puzzles me. 2 Dragon Age games w/ pretty tragic romance options, and they still think that BW wouldn't write a tragic romance?????????

I remember seeing lots of mods for DA2 that did the same thing to Isabela.  Always hated that.  Important thing here though is not to take 4chan bait... I mean cmon.

So I have been out of circulation for a while and catching up on all the news, and it occurs to me that *this* is how my Femquisitor will react to the news of Dorian's orientation. 

 

Kara Trevalyan:  You're gay.   

 

Dorian:  Yes, what? Why?  You aren't some sort of bigot are you?

Personally, I think any of the cosmetic mods (that change anything at all) are all acceptable. If someone made Isabella white in their game....meh. If someone made alistair olive colored (or brown or black or purple idk) in their game.....meh. I just fun the incongruity (that's a word right) between reactions....odd.

I'm black but I'm more of what people in the black community consider....light skin...dun dun dun! So I'll be going darker then most Fereldans but still lighter than Vivienne. Think of a tanned Drake

Plus, Tevinter has citizens from a bunch of places across Thedas, including the far north.

I don't know what his ethnicity is if he isn't white! I thoughts he was just tan.
