Edit: if everyone keeps saying April 2014 then, alas, truth hath spoken out.

It just doesn't make sense. Who announces a novel more than a year ahead of release? They also likely wouldn't have cover finalized this far out and that doesn't look like a placeholder.

Nope, someone just posted a link in that thread. I don't even have twitter, else I would have asked him.
Bother him! The masses must know!
Even if it has no bearing on the release date for DA 3 I'm still dying to get my hands on this book. The premise seems awesome. City elves and Orlesian intrigue. Yes please!

However, I agree with "Cirram55" that this seems weird. The novel sounds like a prequel to DA:Inquisition, so why release it after the game? I would assume the Orlesian civil war and Empress Celene's fate would be decided by the events of DA:I. Maker preserve us if that somehow means the game won't be released until after April 2014!
Patrick Weekes, senior writer at BioWare, will pen Dragon Age: The Masked Empire for April 2014 publication.

Oh, I am happy they are very excited to work on DA3. I know David mentioned it, as well as Allan, that the devs themselves are anxious to reveal new information. So I don't think badly of Bioware, just don't exactly understand what the marketing team/people involved with such things are doing. It is a bit weird.
I support DA3 completely and want it to do well. I just wish we could see some of the improvements rather than just hear about them.
I'd be skeptical that it's a marketing team decision. No one has come to me and told me to be a giant tease on the internet with some of my posts. It's mostly just me trying to have some fun with the fans on the boards.
If it bothers people, I can stop. I don't actually mean to aggravate people.

I love how Gaider says DA][ wasn't about "The typical hero’s journey where you start off with humble beginnings, become a hero, save the day, save the world." and that "It wasn’t shaping the course of the world."
The whole framed narrative was all about finding Hawke so he can save the world after he shaped the course of the world.

I tweeted Weekes to get an answer but so far he hasn't responded. But, in my opinion the release date Barnes and Noble has listed makes more sense to me than the April 2014 one.Especially since the rumored Gamestop release date for DA3 says June. If the June release date from Gamestop turns out to be a preorder date for DA3 and the Barnes and Noble release date for the book is July I think that there is still a good chance we'll get DA3 in 2013. But, thats just rumor, hopefully Bioware will start confirming things soon.serenai wrote...

They make it sound like Mr. Weekes has not written it yet, while other tweets and such say "has written" so I'm confused. If he has yet to write it, I can definitely see a release date of a year from now.
If we don't hear anything by E3 it could only mean one thing, that DA3 is officially in development hell and will likely be the next Duke Nukem Forever.LolaLei wrote...

True. If we don't hear anything at E3 then I'd say it'll most definitely be a 2014 release.

I don't buy the "Going from FB2 to FB3 has been the simplest transisition! We love EA and DICE!" line BioWare has been pushing. They were already working with a new engine, are likely developing for next-gen alongside current-gen, and then their engine gets updated to a whole new iteration.

Frostbite drops occur typically every 3 months (although we want to push to a faster cadence) and this has been happening for about 18 months.

Well we still have a few more years before we reach Dragon Age: Origins type of timetable, and that was with an in house engine people were familiar with.

Logically not every "drop" consists of enough changes to warrant calling it a new version of Frostbite.

But that also encompassed the creation of the entire world and its lore and everything else that comes with creating a new IP.

You seem like an awfully bitter person Basil and I confess confusion as to why you're here if you just hate everything.
I don't actually know what the Frostbite 3 engine looks like and I'm too lazy to just google it BUT if it's even better than Frostbite 2 I am preparing for continuous eyegasms.
you're assuming a change of engine is such a big deal, hell some games (Mechwarrior Online) did it AFTER release with a patch...BasilKarlo wrote...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the FB3 engine is kicking their asses. I don't buy the "Going from FB2 to FB3 has been the simplest transisition! We love EA and DICE!" line BioWare has been pushing. They were already working with a new engine, are likely developing for next-gen alongside current-gen, and then their engine gets updated to a whole new iteration. I don't think things are zooming along. It's hard enough making a game on a modified engine you're familiar with, let alone a modified version of an engine you're never worked with. I still think the game is behind schedule and the book's release date(as given by the publisher) and the change in engine mid-development are just more reason to believe that IMO.

Its why some of us on here are thinking Barnes and Noble's date of June 2, 2013 is possible.
