I wonder if the crunch coming up that Gaider mentioned in his Tumblr is the one before the big reveal? If it is, then by the time he comes back in 6 weeks it'll be May, then probably another 2 weeks to a month to do all the crunchy bits etc, so it'll probably be about June before we hear anything (if we're lucky). Possibly. Maybe. *Shrugs*

Kind of funny having to think about death threat before doing a talk ...there are days, I just really don't envy them.
But anyway mostly it's a nice read , full of optimism.

Really enjoyed his blog post. So great.

Back in Edmonton! Now to start my 6 weeks of sabbatical. Can't wait.

Sooo... Does it actually mean writing in DA:I is done?

@Ryan Loe I'm spending the evening watching movies while going over #DA3 character and plot documentation. Looking good writers.

Maybe?

Could be. His team can still work without him I'd imagine, or they could be in a lull. I'm guessing that they're waiting for the other teams to make edits, send feedback and then they'll get back into it.

This passive-aggressive schtick is unnecessary and unwarranted. I said that the development of Origins included the creation of the history and lore of the setting, which is irrefutable.

I wonder if your character can get a facial scar and I hope they improved the characters hands and bodies design.

And then you extrapolated that to claim that was the bulk of the reason for the length of time that Origins took to make, which certainly is refutable and probably incorrect.

I disagree.  You make a very strong implication with your statement.  Thing is, you make guesses about a lot of things, and they are substantiated only by your imagination, and rather than being "fun" type of speculation like others in this thread, it's used to fuel your cynicism.  I mentioned DAO because it's a game that took several years to be completed, and you stated that it involved world building and all that goes in to creating a new IP.  Unless you have any idea how much time that would actually take (or what it even really means... do you think no history nor lore was created with Dragon Age 2?), your revelation doesn't mean much.

Keep in mind you're also the same person that has assumed that because someone decided to increment a number on an engine, then the most recent code drops from Frostbite MUST have been more intensive than the earlier ones, because your imagination declares it so.

You state that it's clear we're "behind schedule" because you expect that the "new" Frostbite 3 engine is kicking our ass (Frostbite 2 was easier?) when you have no real visibility on what the schedule is besides a target window, what we expect in our deliverables for our milesones, and what flexibility there may be in the schedule and what types of things may influence the schedule.

You are right, it's irrefutable that history and lore was created during the development of DAO.  How much time do you think that took up?

From DG Tumblr :

"I’m about to head into a much-needed sabbatical, a bit of a break before work on DA3 will shift into crunch."

So it seems the writing is not done , though I guess he will still work on promoting the game etc..
So I'm not sure his work will be done before a loooong time.
Anyway DG wrote a nice blog about his GDC "sex talk " :

Minor correction here. He doesn't say  "shift into Crunch", he says "shift into  Overdrive."

Interesting read though.  The impression I got from the first couple of paragraphs was:  Burnout.  I know precisely the feeling he was projecting with his words.  And it has all the hallmarks of someone who's really burnt out.

But after those first couple of paragraphs, the tone and the subject matter takes a U-turn.  He's now projecting the vibe of  a guy, very keenly in-tuned to his  senses  (and everyone else's) and is now  bent on correcting (?) what he feels is an industry-wide injustice.  Personally, I think the " sexual inclusion" issue  he's addressing  is bigger than he is, so he's probably headed towards ultimate  disappointment, but it's still cool to know that as *lead writer* for Bioware, he will at least be in a position to write up games that have the  type of  sexual inclusivity that he's preaching for.

As for 'fan toxicity".  I've never heard a developer claim to have  had  a different experience.  Male or female, they ALL get crapped on and sometimes threatened.    That's  the nature of creating stuff that consumers are so passionate about  (ie.  Games.  Movies.  etc).  And that's probably  something that's never going to change.

It is bigger than he is, but not bigger than all of us together. It will take many voices; I am happy his (very eloquent one) is among them.

so, it's April,1st now, at least in Europe. means only a few more hours until it's April,1st in Canada what then again means that we might get some "teaser" tweets from the da3 people :( I think I should just prepare myself for not believing in any tweets until April fools day is over...though I already see myself thinking "what if they just want to make us think that what they tweet is non-sense?" waaaaah!

First off, I've never presented my theories or cynicism of the game's progess as anything more than my opinion. I never said that the game is "clearly" behind schedule because FB3 is kicking your asses. I said I think the game is behind schedule for a myriad of reasons, with the change of engines being one of them. You then informed me that FB3 is just a series of incremental changes that have been happening over time, which is information that no one here was privy to afaik. I can't know the ins and outs of the development, such as exactly how long it took to craft the history, lore and world of Thedas while making Origins. What I can do is use the information that is available to me to reason what may be happening. If you have a problem with me being cynical then just ban me. Otherwise I'll continue to voice my opinions based on the information available to me, be it cynical or positive.

I think the argument it's bigger than he is ...is hum...a bit stupid.
Worldwide problem are always bigger than us as individuals.
If no one says "Hey guys I think there's a problem here..." ,well problems won't just disappear.

I think DG was happy , and proud that he was trying to make a difference.
He has every right to be .
You may agree , or not ,or be bored out of your skull about this issue but hey it does take some gut to do what he did.

About female/male ...the amount of cyberbullying ( and cruelty) directed at women is ...Look at names like Amanda Todd , Anita Sarkeesian , the girl that was raped at a party a few months ago with people laughing about on social network ...

I'm not saying cyberbullying doesn't happen to man ,but there's a real problem about violence and women. And it shows on the net.But it's another topic.

I too felt encouraged and happy about David Gaider's speech. From what I've read about the talk it seemed a very moderate and insightful approach to increasing inclusivity in gaming. I also agree wholeheartedly that the entertainment media should not sit outside the world that it is created for and can have a role in promoting positive messages without becoming a vehicle for political activism.

I'd also like to say that I've found Bioware to be a company that historically has not actively repelled women and as a long time female gamer I have always found a way to play a female protagonist I could enjoy and relate to in their games. I appreciate this inclusivity greatly.

Considering how coy their tweets have been, I also wouldn't be surprised that they try to play an April Fool on the fans.  I think you're right that we should take anything tweeted or otherwised "revealed" tomorrow with a grain of sand.  Image IPB

Better than me. First time I played, when I finally looked at the clock, I was already over an hour late to work. Ended up calling in sick (fake) xD

I wouldn't put it past them to tell us an exact reveal date and chuckle diabolically when we're all convinced it's a prank...ONLY TO FIND OUT THEY WERE TELLING THE TRUTH.

It'd be, like...a trap trap.
