While I think those factors make them less likley to be love interests, I wouldn't rule them out entirely. Carth and Thane were old enough to have adult children, but they were still love interests. Thane was dying of an incurable disease, and he was still a love interest. Cassandra is in her late thirties at least, and we know she's an option. As for Varric, he hasn't seen Bianca in more than a decade. (It's not like having exes - dead or alive - has stopped people being romances in other games. Carth Syndrome is a proud BioWare tradition going all the way back to before Carth himself was even invented.)

 

I mean, I once thought there was no chance we'd get a shot at Iron Bull on account of his being a seven foot tall monster with one eye. And yet, here we are.

 

I think that the male love interests will be Cullen and Dorian (both confirmed) plus Iron Bull and either Solas, Blackwall or Varric.

How so? There are five women and seven men in our core group of twelve. Of course, we can eliminate Leliana and Cole from consideration, so four women and six men that are confirmed or potential romances.

I think that's unlikely. The non-advisor, non-companion romance will most likely be a woman. The only remaining potential female LI we've got among the companions/advisors is Viv, and I doubt she'll be romanceable.

From the wording of the post I'm really beginning to doubt that the non companion is actually a romace and not just a fling. The "at least one that I know of" sounds odd.

I wish we could get further clarification if the non-companion/advisor romance is even part of the 8 count, because I have a really hard time seeing it. They've made a point about how the advisors are special NPCs and the cornerstones of the Inquisition. I can see that they might be comparable to companions, but I can't see outside NPCs being the same. They also worded the confirmation oddly. "At least one that I know of." I would think they would be able to keep track of their main 8 LIs without that kind of uncertainty. I'm leaning towards the non-companion/advisor "romances" being more like DA:O flings and Anora right now, until we get clearer confirmation.

 

Would anyone with Twitter be willing to ask around if they could clarify if these are part of the main 8? I mean, they mentioned both things openly, so they might not mind clearing up whether the secondary NPCs are part of the main 8 count or not.

That's what I was thinking. That it might be one of the race restricted marriages like that of Anora/Alistair. Seeing as the human is a noble one again.


Also, hooray! All caught up and now under the belief that my female inquisitors may all end up being lesbians. This is rare. Normally I favour all the males. Good job Bioware.
