I think I'm going to start a thread requesting that the DA:I sub-forum is split between "no spoilers" and "spoiler" , much like the ones for the other games. I would love to see some of these folks stick around without worrying about being to ruined on the plot.

Wow, a lot of people keep asking "If Adaar is the Qunari word for weapon, what's the word for shield?" (1)
"Adaar" isn't the general word for weapon. It specifically means, "ship-mounted cannon." Sorry about that. (2)
But the word for "shield" would be "Beres-taar" (3)

Well, it's a bit late for that now that major spoilers were in the second part of the demo. I mean, I'm okay with that much--I know there will be other big moments. But that was still a big spoiler, and yet the LIs are not a huge spoiler and we still don't know...
I'm on the fence about spoilers, honestly. Part of me wants to eagerly grab them up and consume them, but then I'm afraid I won't be surprised and won't enjoy the game as much if I do... so I don't know. I kind of want to go on a media blackout, and probably will not long after the LIs are fully announced, but...

What one song, when you hear it, instantly takes you to Thedas? Making a DA-inspired playlist! @BioMaryKirby @SherylChee @KarinWeekes
Hm. Probably This is War by 30 Seconds to Mars since it played over the credits of Origins?
User
Pfft. Well that's already ON my playlist! Rule is it can't be from the game? ![]()
Gosh, you're not making it easy. Blow by Ke$ha, because it reminds me of Anders.
Tainted Love by Soft Cell. Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas (it's something of a Writers Pit in-joke).

Sorry that my first PC will have a surname reflecting one of the greatest technological achievements that exists in the world of Thedas? Sounds pretty kickass to me... it's like the Thedas equivalent of being named after a spaceship.

Did you make up the qunari language yourself or is this from that Wolfe linguist you got for Origins?
This is 75% me, and probably 25% Luke.
User
Did the name "Qunari / Vashoth" are based on Arabic names?
Not that I know of.

I don't think Mary gives enough leaks. The other devs seem to get their glory, it is now her turn to shine. Someone ask Mary Kirby for some leaks... (maybe romantic leaks

She doesn't tweet much, period. But when she does... it is as if a thousand butterflies are singing together in chorus, as a grasshopper rows by on a leafen gondola.
I suppose I should be happy she's hard at work instead of tweeting. But her tweets are so delightful.

Cool, thanks for sharing! Would the general word for "weapon" be... saarebas, maybe? Or would that get too confusing?
Saarebas literally translates to, "Dangerous thing."
User
I'm going to be that person - could I ask the word for 'weapon' in general, should it exist?
There isn't one. Qunari terms are mostly figurative and have multiple meanings. Adaar literally means, "fire thrower."
User
Think "Zuhara" is an appropriate name for a "Vashoth"?
Vashoth can have literally anything for a name. Pretty much anything they like the sound of will work. So, yes.
User
whats your favourite qunari word and what dose it mean?
"Asaaranda," which means "thunderstorm."

The Iron Bull is NOT race gated? o.O I'm seriously surprised. That whole 'sleep with anything he won't break' made me think he wouldn't be available to either dwarves or elves at least.
Now this makes me think that Varric will be a romance and race gated since we know he only likes dwarves (and probably only women). I say this with a heavy heart, since I was hoping for Blackwall instead. SIGH.
Hopefully we'll learn the final two romances tomorrow!

I wonder if BioWare has considered releasing a spoiler-free dictionary of known words from various languages? I can understand why they might not want to (it's easier to change things if we don't know about it), but it would be really awesome for those of us who like to have lore-appropriate names for our characters.
