But, as I said, she is romancable in the series as a whole, so it still creates the idea that most women who work with us are willing to sleep with the player

This is actually one of the main reasons I hope Viv isn't an LI (I never really thought she would be, but then I also assumed we'd have 6 not 8 LIs). That said, she has a lot of fans and I think it'd be sad for them if she wasn't.

Honestly, I'm leaning more towards there being disparity and the remaining two LIs being both male.

So, if Iron bull was previously race gated and was only recently changed, does that mean there is only one race gated romance now or were they not counting him when they said there were two?

IB does not count as one of the two. There are two more. (And to be honest we have no guarantee that the two are not, in fact, out of the already announced ones, we're just assuming: the only ones we know for sure aren't gated are IB and Josie).

Technically if they were willing to have more men in the inquisition than women then it shouldn't be surprising if there are more male LIs than females.

Of course they'll never do that, and it will of course further the idea in the game industry that if a woman wants to work with you she'll sleep with you. If viv is a romance then every single female member of the inquisition is romancable over the series as a whole.

It'll be unbalanced with a higher percentage of romancable women than men.
Where's the females who just aren't interested in romance like we have for two of the males?

But if she's not then the one black person in the game isn't romanceable. It can be viewed as racist, or at the least unintentional racism. Although if she is a romance option, then it can be viewed as a cynical attempt to placate black people. Again: racist, or at the least cynical racism.

My point is this: you can find hidden agendas or meanings which reinforce your own bias behind every aspect of an entertainment product if you look hard enough. So my advice: don't, and simply enjoy the game. Not everything should be an exercise in political correctness.

Josephine has pretty dark skin though.

And saying what you'#re saying is based off of one thing, whereas I have more broad evidence.

And this isn't even REMOTELY political correctness. If anything it's the opposite, saying bioware shouldn't be pressured to have equal numbers of male and female LIs.

You sound like one of those people who thinks every time something is done to make the game more representative of actual life then it's political correctness, like those people who think having a single gay character in a game with 40 straight characters is political correctness.

Also, no-one has ever explained to me what exactly is *wrong* with 'political correctness' in the first place. What is wrong with not wanting to offend people?

I disagree with the notion that having every female character available to be romanced instantly translates to them all wanting to sleep with you.

Same situation with Morrigan, who sounds to be essentially a member of the inquisition.

I seem to remember some of the devs said more or less opposite: she doesn't have a lot in common with Inq. Don't have a link handy, though.

And how is "every female character in the series romancable?" One word: Aveline. Two words: Aveline and Wynne (yes, what?). And it's not like there's a whole lot of unavailable males in the series. Varric, Oghren, Sten (though I think the idea of a romance with Sten is something akin to a romance with Shale). So a more accurate thing to say is: "Most of the characters, regardless of their gender, are willing to sleep with the player."

I don't understand what you're referring to as "evidence", I merely proposed a hypothetical situation to underline my point. Also I don't think Bioware is being pressured into anything. Some may ask it of them, yes, but ultimately the decision lies with them, and it has already been made. By saying what you said, you essentially claimed inside knowledge of the reason behind the romance options, which you clearly don't have, much in the same way I don't have knowledge of whether the Viv. romance would be because of racist intentions(although my guess is no). I don't think the equal number (if it is equal) of romance options would be indicative of anything but the developer's decision, unless it is implied in-game, or specifically stated.

As a final point, what is wrong with political correctness? Imagine a world where everyone would only speak like the White House press secretary. That's what's wrong with PC. Even if in most cases, you shouldn't be an A-hole, sometimes you have to able to speak your mind. But this is not the place to have this discussion. So let's get back to topic

I guess the latter, since Asaara is the word for "wind".

Grand, I just imagined my qunquisitor's name translating as "Wind Cannon". My inner twelve year-old is giggling like a schoolgirl.

Thank you. Pretty much this.

I will say that I think the whole "all women want to sleep with you thing" is pretty terrible, and I can see what you're saying. I will, however, go on and say that we aren't really sure how the romances for each character will work. DA:O was really good about that; Alistair was fairly straightforward and would not sleep with you until a certain level of intimacy had been reached. Leliana required even more intimacy. Zevran required little intimacy, but a certain level of intimacy would lead him to refuse sex. I liked that each of the characters approached a relationship (be it romantic and sexual or purely sexual) in different ways.

So even if many of the ladies in Inquisition are "romanceable" they probably won't be in the same way. It doesn't exactly fix the problem you're pointing out (I have a friend that calls it "nice guy syndrome" - i.e. BUT I WAS NICE TO HER, WHY WON'T SHE JUMP IN BED WITH ME??? OMG I'VE BEEN FRIENDZONED!!!!!!!!!!!!!). However, it would probably keep the women from all being sex/relationship vending machines where you push a button and get a relationship.

I started a new thread to continue this discussion outside of the twitter thread. http://forum.bioware...ity-in-romance/

IB: So what's your name again?
Inq: Look, just call me Inquisitor, okay? (under their breath): Some parents, I swear.
