RE: Song link

Believe I saw Weird Al in concert some time ago; am guessing seeing Joan Jett the same night has muddied that memory somewhat....

Just a small slice? ;)

The slice gets bigger the closer he sets the reveal date. ;)

Allan Schumacher @AllanSchumacher

If it contains "the last two romance options" you might make a small slice of people happy.... XD

I think Allan may have noticed that the Romances thread went completely off the deep end today. (Like, more literally than usual.) I guess he's trying to get them to throw us a line.

Excellent, our plan is working.

David Hulegaard @HulegaardBooks

A lot of writers "vacation" from their own work by dabbling in fanfic. Sounded like fun, so I gave it a shot: http://davidhulegaard.com/?p=1289

I won't hear any such talk about Allan. He is a paragon of goodness and honor.

User

Will the Inquisitor know their past at the beginning of the game or do they forget who they are after the explosion

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw

There’s no mystery about your past.

I actually don't like this. I like having more of a blank slate so I can connect easier.

they did the same thing for Origins and DA II (to a lesser extent). BW gives you just enough info about your past to get you started but nothing that would interfere with the connection to your character.

I don't like the blank slate approach because that just means no one will ever really ask about or bring up your background at all, which always seems strange in an RPG for me. So even if the backgrounds aren't exactly what I personally would have picked for my character, it's nice that they're there because it gives other characters something to mention.

But we weren't going to have a blank state anyway. We knew already there were backgrounds. What they're talking is amnesia, which is different.

Huh, that is not what I experienced, there are several times in the 'black-slate' Bioware game where you can be asked about your past and then talk about it. Not in-dept like when you learn about your companions, but it still happens.

Though whether you could call the Bioware games blank-slate is probably up to discussion, since that all of them (or those I have played anyway, Kotor, TOR, ME, DA) had a background, even if it was not particularly substantial. It was still there, though vague enough that you could insert your own ideas without contradicting what is said.

Right, but even in that instance you're still deciding your characters background based on prompts from Bioware and not your own.

It is a game. Unless you were writing your own story, you would never be able to decide based on your own ideas. I could not suddenly decide to be the scion of a power Tevinter magister or an escaped slave from or Orlais in DA1, you were always one of the six origins, like you will always have one of the however-many back-stories here.

Wanting a truly unique background that you have personally chosen is impossible in a game. You can headcanon to your heart's content, of course, but it will never be validated by the game itself.

Edit: Sorry for the derailing, we should probably stop or take this to PMs.

True... but... it's a small slice of very devoted fans who are at the moment feeling more anxious than excited, I think  :) And I'm sure even those who don't care (here on the forums at least) would appreciate it if the conversation could move on already.  Just rip off the band-aid already, I say....

Edit:  I do care about the romances, but even I'm getting sick of the endless (who's it going to be!?!?!) speculation loop...

The conversation will not move on. Romance discussion remains popular prior to release, at release, and tends to last far after.

Even in the Leliana thread in DA:I, a good chunk of the conversation is about the DA:O romance which was 5 years ago.

You have certainly gained enough prestige, young one.

All that remains is for you to recite the Code of the Sith, after which you must venture deep into the tomb of Naga Sadow.
