As far as I can tell, it's just a date picked up by the home entertainment industry, started by album releases I believe. A Friday street date caused problems because if the shipment was delayed, the store wouldn't get anything until Monday, since weekend shipping isn't that reliable. Monday street dates caused the same problem, so Tuesday was settled on as an industry standard. Home videos, albums and video games all have Tuesday release dates in the US. It's all kind of arbitrary really, but there you go.

IIRC the problem was pathfinding for followers in busy streets. Apparently Assassins Creed style cities are still infeasible for party-based games with current technology. Given that so many people complained about Kirkwall's sparse population, they may have decided to avoid cities until the technology improves enough to do it well.

So last gen consoles are to blame, gotcha.

Basically, yes.  Games are released on Tuesdays in the US, and on Fridays in the UK.  It's just the way things are done.

I look at it as an inconvenient blessing. You get the weekend to lock yourself in your home and play the game. Between Tuesday and Friday you can either not get on the BSN, or sit back and enjoy spoilers.

I prefer games to get released on Fridays.

For DAI I will just have to stare at the Inquisitor's box just chilling on my table. At first I was going to just install it and and play it on the weekend...but the temptation would be too strong.

"Oh, I'll just create my character"...

10 hours later I realize I have to go to school/work.

THIS^ THIS EXACTLY^ I can't afford that level of temptation midweek as a pre-med student lol.

Small tidbit about the potential future marketing timeline:

Makes sense. The only things I can think of that they have yet to release character-wise is the last 2 LIs, the last 5 VAs, and the VA videos for those who get them.

Please keep the off topic post in another thread. If you have a question about release dates, start a new thread.

That sounds like quite a bit... though I suppose the VA videos could wait until after release, maybe a bit of extra promotion around x-mas time.

Or perhaps they're going to leave them to be discovered in the game :)

There are many other gameplay mechanics and features to introduce and advertise before launch, after all.

Oh god this would be nerve-wrecking. I'd be so terrified of pursuing the wrong character and ending up with no romance option for the game. My need to complete as much story content as possible cannot handle the idea of not pursuing a romance for my first playthrough.

Does anyone know why everything releases later in the UK?

Google is your friend: http://www.eurogamer...sed-on-a-friday

Any further questions, I'd suggest not using the Twitter thread for it.

Well, the VA announcements can be done via Twitter like they've done so far. As for the VA videos, that could be. And who knows how many they are even doing. The only one we know of that isn't out yet is Greg Ellis' Cullen one.

You're not alone. A lot of people seem like they want to know everything they possibly can before they even start the game, so their playthrough is the "right" one. It's not something I'll personally ever understand, as it seems to me like people want to play the game before they play it, but it's a desire the team is well aware of and I really doubt you won't eventually learn who all the romanceable characters are and who they will/wont romance prior to release.

I can help explain some of this, some people want to plan their play through as they will most likely get one really solid from start to finish game, do to work or other obligations so they want to have a goal to reach before stopping for the day.

I feel like if you were trying to romance someone and you couldn't for whatever reason (gender/race gates etc.) it would be kind of obvious at some point. Like the character would have dialog that says "this can't happen and this is why" ... and you'd be like "Well, that sucks. Okay, moving on to the next one ..." I can't imagine why not being able to romance a specific character would be a game breaker in the end, but that's just me.

We've already gotten a lot of information on the already revealed romances so I don't think it'll be an issue.

It's funny, because I would have been fine had I not learned any of them, but knowing most of them now, I'd like to just complete that set of info so that I can know whether Solas is available or not and then go on a media black out before anything else gets spoiled for me. (I usually go into my first playthrough with a clean meta-slate and this is the first time I'll not be doing that and I wonder how it is going to effect enjoyment, honestly.)

Mass Effect 3 was the first game I ever played where I was spoiled for the game and I can tell you from experience that it did not really affect my enjoyment of the experience other than the fact that I was already completely spoiled on the endings and my opinion had been negatively tainted by it. But that was my own fault and could have been easily avoided. Knowledge of who the LI were or some of the locales we were going to visit did not have a negative impact on me.

Yeah, I got inadvertently spoiled on the big DA2 twist and it not only spoiled my knowledge of the game, but my enjoyment of the romance my character was pursuing. >.>  So, definitely hoping to avoid that sort of thing again.

This is the first time I'm spoiled on anything Dragon Age related!

I actually played DA: II first and then bought Origins after. But like I said ... big spoilers can usually be avoided. I would just avoid the characters and lore board the closer we get to release. :)

I can see why it seems strange to some. For me, it's a matter of time constraints. If DAI were only 10-20 hours long, then a less than stellar playthrough wouldn't be a big deal. At 100-150 hours, I'd like my first (and possibly only) playthrough to be as enjoyable as possible.

Mmm, I just want to know all LIs and how gated they are so I can hide from the main plot spoilers and draw/write silly fanworks about these characters

Personally, I'm only interested in the romances (I really don't want story spoilers) because I'll do a run for each romances option. Knowing in advance just makes planning easier.

edit to add:

Not wanting story spoilers and being able to resist them do NOT go hand in hand :D

I doubt I'll be able to stop myself, but I've already pre-ordered and told my family I'm going on vacation when it comes out.

Exactly this.  If it were a short game, the idea of missing out on something/screwing something up is no biggie - I'll just start over and play again.  But to feel like I have to do that after 100+ hours....?  Being the 'I have to explore everything/do every side quest' completionist I am? That would be frustrating, not fun...  And since the romance arc is important to me, and does add so much to my enjoyment of the game overall, at least knowing all my options would be nice.

I'm a very new Bioware fan, I actually got into the games after following the ME3 and DA2 debacles online. I figured that if people were that passionate about the series then they were definitely something to look into. This means that DA:I will be the first Bioware game I'll be playing day 1, before people start posting all those wikis and walkthroughs for me to look up if I start doubting myself. It makes me kinda nervous, I've always used those wikis as crutches to help me out here and there when I needed them, and I won't have them this time around...

I'm just so paranoid about missing major content, part of me wants everything left in the dark so that I can experience it anew, and the other part of me wants the everything spoiled so I know what I'm getting myself into.

I to like having a character ready for each romance. It helps me build present characters if I know what future ones will be like "Oh I'm romancing this character with a sweet qunari warrior, so maybe a conniving elven mage would be better for this playthrough"

I am also horrible with spoilers, I try to resist, and always fail.

It's kinda fun too though, plus (at least me personally) get a joy out of being one of the first people who can update the wiki with new info.
