Why are people talking about Maevaris?
Is she in? What?

In an interview, Jennifer Hale said this:
"No, but I did just record some stuff for Dragon Age last week, which was super fun, and it was really a huge honour to do the role that I did - it's a massive compliment, and it's quite groundbreaking. So, very excited about that."
So people are guessing who she is referring to.

What Sasha Braus said, we're just trying to figure out what would be a groundbreaking role.
This is my bet.
Can Hale pull off an Orlesian accent?
I'm not sure what would be groundbreaking about that anyway.

Oh... I thought I missed a tweet or something
I suppose something "groundbreaking" in the current game world would be LGBT-related but it could just as easily be something else entirely.
Of course it doesn't have to be Maevaris if it is indeed something similar ![]()

I'm at a loss to think about anything else though...
I wonder who she is voicing.
Maybe she voices the female Warden?

Yes she can. She voiced Aayla Secura in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars tv series and she had a French accent in that.

A woman being in charge of a continent spanning empire? No nothing new about that (its not really, but very rare in our own history). She is also in love with a female elf.

True ![]()
However playing a lesbian empress isn't something to scoff at ![]()

That's sort of old hat for Dragon Age though, isn't it?

An out gay person in charge of an entire empire could be considered groundbreaking.

Well Celene is a very progressive, lesbian or bisexual monarch, I can't think of another character like her.
Plus we don't really know what role Celene will play in DA:I, after regaining her throne she might dissolve the monarchy and bring democracy to Thedas.
Is it groundbreaking for DA or groundbreaking for Real life though is the real question
An out gay person in charge of an entire empire could be considered groundbreaking.
I suppose, but in a DA game I can't say it strikes me as such. It also seems a bit late to be recording lines for such a (presumably) important character. The said they wished they could get Maeveris in but it was too late earlier in development, I was wondering if her inclusion and Hale's last minute lines could be a late addition to the game.

She isn't that progressive.
Maybe she voices a talking Dragon that begs you not to kill her and her youngins..that'd be groundbreaking
I'm at a loss to think about anything else though...
She isn't that progressive.
She's progressive for a monarch. Most monarchs are so obsessed with making sure that they keep their throne that they won't try and change their Empire for the better because they worry the Nobles will rebel against them.
She is at least trying to move Orlais away from the whole 'lets conquer the whole world' to a country focused on art, culture, science, equality etc.
It could also just be an entirely new character, who is also groundbreaking in some way.
DAI will be introducing new people, after all
That is also totally true ![]()

Maybe she grants Elves equal rights. That's very groundbreaking for Thedas.

I want new people but I also want loose ends to get resolved at some point. Here's hoping Inquisition will have a fair share in tying those loose ends.
It would be cool if Hale was voicing the female warden, and Meer was voicing the male warden. However I agree with the people that say it will be a whole new character she will be voicing.
Hm, but new to the series or new to the games?
