Indeed. Everyone seems sad about this, but maybe the lizard creature is some awesome thing we've never seen before. It could be also be dopey thing nobody wants, but I like to be optimistic.

I was sort of hoping we could keep the number of giant lizard species to a minimum (I prefer small but well utilized bestiaries, lessens the chances of repetition and monsters-that-really-aren't-the-same-thing-but-basically-are)

I can't remember the name of the creature, but in DA Legands, there was a Qunari lizard thing. It looked big enough to ride. It's also featured in concept art:

But the devs have mentioned certain elements of legends (like one of the characters being born tranquil) are non-canon.  I don't think I'd give that too much credit.

 

Admittedly, I haven't played Legends since before DA2 was out, so I can't judge the resemblance.
