Ugh, sounds like they really butchered the tactical customisation. Even DA 2 had the tactical customisation in detail and not dumbed down like this.

Tactics ARE ability preferences so I'm not sure what you're thinking is correct.

 

You put the abilities that you want them to use at certain times. That's...ability preference lol

I love the new character portraits. Sera's in particular. Looks like we can change our own portrait as well. For most of the video, it's a green hand. But in one of the segments, it's orange.

Have you seen what he did in the video?

There was no complex customisation or determination when which ability was used. 

He just marked an ability as "I like this one" and that's it.

That's not tactical, it's barely anything.
