I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.
You read my mind.

Visitor in the office today was offered to play #DAI. After character creation and 10 min he stopped, "This is too good, I need to wait"
@aidanscanlan Was that the guy that quipped "This looks gorgeous" or something similar when I walked by? ![]()
@AllanSchumacher yep! That's the one.
Mua hah hah hah hah

#DAI perhaps? I'm dying for that game!

Yes! We have an exclusive interview with Dragon Age writer Patrick Weekes from Comic-Con releasing shortly.

Pfft. If you can believe anything THAT guy says.

im curious. What does a lead editor do? I love learning bout the game industry.
I manage a team of 4 editors that edit all dialog and text for our games. We work a lot with the writing teams on dialog...
and with other design team on all the rest of the text. We also liaise with our voice-over and localization teams, as well...
as provide IP support for ancillary teams (novels, apps, etc) and in-house work on things like lore books & strategy guides.
There are a few other things, but that's the gist. ![]()

You mean that dialog I *obsess* over for clues? That dialog? *bows down*
We obsess over it quite a bit, ourselves. ;D

I
the lore and codex entries. The dialogue is one of my favorite parts when im not back stabbing skeletons ![]()
Yay! Ideally, both are equally fun in different ways. ![]()
I love and miss you all.

Do you remember the Sprint Review Day drinking games? Ah, good times.
Long time DAYtheELF! ![]()
Are you going to Pax Prime or are you sticking to your media blackout...?
Thinking about Gamescom... I've never paid too much attention to any of them til now for DAI, I'm a bit worried... Is anything in English or are we going to have to wait for translations?
I believe most of the press conferences and stuff are in English, actually. Certainly EA's usually is.
Everything in general seems to be in English from what I've seen. Gamescom gets people from all parts of Europe and beyond.

Dragon Age Origins SacredAshes @Mike_Laidlaw @AarynFlynn can we have great commercials for DAI like these please http://youtu.be/j5St9phiHHE
Maybe, but we wouldn't do CG again

It's my dream to work in the gaming industry but I really don't think I have any applicable skills. :'(
Never say never. Esp at big studios, all kinds of skills are needed. This lists some: http://www.gamedegree.com/careers_WhatJobs.asp …
Allan Schumacher @AllanSchumacher
Yup. Big studio, wide varieties of interests. e.g. I'm not cut out for editing, but Karin is!!

How exactly do the novels tie with a game that changes based on player choice?
Very carefully.
The novels generally expand on places/events that exist in the games, but aren't focal points. They're...
kind of like really big, extensive, super-awesome codex entries. ![]()

After ME i always wished the DA codex entries had a va narrate them....maybe varric would be a good choice.
Interesting idea! I could listen to Varric say ANYTHING. All day long. ![]()

As much as I like Brian Bloom's voice, nobody will beat Mass Effect Codex Guy.
Please do NOT put VA in for codex entries. In Mass Effect it annoyed me to no end that I wanted to read faster than the rhythm of the voice narrator and his yapping would just interfere with my reading.
I don't like having stuff read for me. Make it a *omg I'm going there* TOGGLE! At the very least.
I think having the codex entries narrated was more appropriate for Mass Effect, it being science fiction and all. It's easy to imagine sound files taking the place of textbooks, for example.
Dragon Age... I guess paper could be magically imbued with the voice of the author or something? But I don't feel it fits quite as well.

I think they should definitely go the ME way I mean I spent hours just listening to that dude in Mass Effect
the simple reading in DA became really boring and its a shame since the world is probably richer than Mass Effect
(maybe a on/off option for those who don't want them)
My guess is they won't have a voiceover option for the codices, if only because paying for that much narration would be (I assume) heinously expensive, compared to just having the text there. And it would take a lot of time.
I have allotted some time to "play the game proper" tomorrow. Mayhaps I'll import a state in from the @DragonAgeKeep? ![]()
@AllanSchumacher @DragonAgeKeep Make a male Dwarf called Johnny Cadash that looks exactly like his namesake!

I disagree. ME's voiced codex was a nice touch, but it's different than Dragon Age's codex. DA is filled with lore that's not just definitions of races and technology, but contain letters and entries that wouldn't make sense for a guy to voice them (eg. a panicked templar letter. Voiced by the same guy that tells the story of the Dales? Wouldn't sound right). Plus, not that many listened to it, and most that want to read the codex read quicker than the narration.

I recall a dev (Mr Gaider maybe?) saying something like 'every time you request a toggle a developer explodes', or Andraste weeps, or something I don't know.

I think it was John Epler and he stated that an airplane crashes into an orphanage filled with puppies each time someone requests a toggle? I am not sure if that's exactly but it was something catastrophic.
