It is mentioned in the writer's interview that Josephine is "handier with a pen than with a sword", that is where I think the concern comes from.

 

Doesn't mean that she can't fight necessarily, but I do get the impression she's not great at it.

That's how I read it, too. I'm reminded of a similar character in the comic Y: The Last Man. Allison Mann is an awesome badass, but against a ninja her Ivy League fencing skills were...insufficient.

Exactly how I meant it, yup.  That interview, and that particular statement, makes me very protective of Josie and very nervous when I hear "make 5 grunting sounds like you got hit with a sword". >_>

But the pen is mightier than the sword. Particularly if inserted through a nostril or other orifice.

Really? They record all the major characters making "battle grunts" for combat situations. They were just glad that she knew what the sounds would be for, so the process of recording would go a little faster (and so the voice director wouldn't have to explain it for the upteenth time).

 

Also, it would be really gross if they were telling her to make sounds like she was getting hit by a weapon for a sex scene. JFC.

If a VA hasn't worked on a game previously, or has only been an NPC, then you may need to explain what a sound set is to them. He's saying that it was nice to have someone who didn't need the basics explained to her.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure 'grunt five times like you're being hit by a sword' wouldn't make much sense, especially when they could say 'grunt as though you're having sex.'
