The reason given was something about having 'new opportunities' (which I guess might've been the change to Frostbite), and focusing the entire team on DA3 from an early stage. Certainly they were a fair way into making Exalted March, so the business case for it must've been enough to initially justify all that work put into it.
(I'd love an in-depth explanation at some point, but I doubt we'll get one.)
We actually weren't too far into the expansion pack to be honest. I was doing work on automatic playthrough bots but had to use DA2 to test it as there wasn't a lot of in game level content.
I know writing had done a bit of work (they are usually the ones most able to get started without as much dependencies on the rest of the team), but I certainly wasn't on the project for very long.
Thanks for the info!
I think I took the writers' hints and tidbits as an indication the XP pack had a bit of work done, but obviously not. I know David Gaider already had things in mind in terms of character plots, and Mike/Mark were teasing the setting and stuff (those PAX t-shirts with random Free Marches cities on them).
It sounds like the decision to stop work on Exalted March was made in late 2011, around the same time as the team apparently started working with Frostbite, were they connected at all? I'm just wondering if cancelling Exalted March coincided with a decision to increase the scope (or change the size of the project, not sure how to put it) of DA3, too.
