Bullshit. Check your info
There is no canon. There are only defaults
Even the one they use in the comics is not canon. It is one of possible outcomes (Alistair being the king, Wynne and Shale alive during Asunder etc) and as said, I think, mr.Gaider, they do no necessary use any of the known defaults for the comics and books
Devs said on the twitter that the main default is "Dalish, dead" and "Hawke, mage, supported mages"
And that's it. No Cousland whatsoever
From the library edition we find out through one of Gaider's annotations that Alistair performed the dark ritual with Morrigan.
As for the books, you are correct. You may now proceed to jump for joy.
If the default is present, and all choices that kill off possible cameo characters are chosen. Leliana, Varric, Cassandra are not killed due to their inclusion in DAI, but we can assume that everyone else that was not murdered in the books is dead, or not appearing.
They said they have a big announcement about DAI ..but it will come later this month?
MP , maybe?

The comics and books show only some possible situations. As mr.Gaider said himself, I believe, if Wynne and Shale were dead then the events of Asunder would probably happen a tad diffirently. The main thing about them all... all these events happen but they differ depending on the circumstances (except if Alistair is dead, then no comic book events, I guess). So there is still no canon. And hopefully won't be
In the comic book world state Alistair did perform the Dark Ritual, but as Bioware said, DS is not going to be canon. If players did it, it happened, if players didn't, it didn't

I don't think Lilyas meant the same thing with 'canon' as you do. 'Canon' here is not the same as saying: it happens regardless. 'Canon' means the default world state that BioWare seems to have had for every game and book. Like the Mahariel Warden doing the Ultimate Sacrifice. Every piece of DA-content outside of the games seems to have followed this world state.

Then it is not canon
"Canon" means "The works of a writer that have been accepted as authentic" or "the conceptual material accepted as "official" in a fictional universe's fan base"
Default is not canon

Except it can all be canon!
Canonception?!
So on a scale of 1 - 10 how great is your want of DAI now after the latest trailer. Mine is at 11.

Books have to have a canon, unless they're Choose Your Own Adventure type novels. Or they're retroactively altered, which isn't attractive to readers of series who care about fictional lore.
I personally consider the "default world state" of the books as "book canon" while the "default world state" of the games is just default. Semantics, but until the books start being retconned, it makes sense to me that way.

Books do. Games like DA and ME don't
There is some canon like, let's say, that Anderson and Saren die. But players' choices depend on us only. There is default which is used for lazies, new players and some promotional work plus books/book comics world states but they're not all canon and would differ if the world state was diffirent

Oh I remember , the one who's having babies on her back.
It seems people find that really disgusting...I don't.
People with arachophobia find it disgusting.
People that don't...not so much.

The thing is though, the DA books *have* to have a static world state (book canon), and there's nothing wrong with people seeing it as canon, for the books. The assumption right now is that the default world state for DA:I will be the same as the books, thus people calling it canon. We can't take that assumption as fact, but it's not totally out there to think that it will be that way.

And there we go with the spoilers again. Great. Seriously people, this is a Dragon Age forum, why do we need ME spoilers? You could've just chosen a DA example.
Anyway, it is clear that the original user of the word 'canon' in this context just meant the 'default' world state that is used as 'canon' for the books.

It is still not canon, just a specific world state. Like a save used for DA2 playthrough
If Wynne, Alistair or Shale died in DA:O, the events of books and comic books happen without them and that's it
Also I think I recall some dev saying that no, they don't use the default for comic books and books. Though no details were given (who was the Warden etc). It's logical to assume that the main defaults were used but it doesn't make them any more canon - it is just used for less connection between games so new players don't have to deal a lot with characters they have never met before. The fate of Warden, Hawke and many companions and events depend on players' choices.

That was a spoiler, really? It's been years... almost
"Canon" and "default" are not interchangable words, they have diffirent meaning hence they're not synonyms

2 years. A little over 2 years. But there are people here, including me, who still haven't played ME3. I don't even understand why you had to bring something like that up. I mean, I get Dragon Age spoilers, considering this is an Inquisition-forum, but ME-spoilers?! Almost everyone here seems to assume that the rest of the BSN has played through every BioWare game ever made, and it's getting on my nerves. Two years is not that long, despite what you might think.
Anyway, we're getting off topic, and I don't think we'll reach an agreement here. Back to the Tweets.

Eh, I guess we stop this discussion now

I try to be fair, but Blinky might be why someone invents Surface-to-Air Missiles in Thedas.
I would fully support trying to hand-wave this into the IP somehow.
