Yep. Morrigan is most definitely not an atheist, per Word of Gaider.

Leliana: So you truly do not believe in any sort of higher power?
Morrigan: It has been bothering you, I see. No, I do not. Must I?
(source:Banter in Dragon Age Origins)
This is atheism to my understanding, or at least agnosticism leaning so much towards atheism that there is no difference.
PS. It is properly better to take such discussion to a separate thread now to keep this one from getting even more cluttered.

All I get from her statement:
"I have no primitive fear of the moon that I must believe in some absentee father figure just so I can sleep at night" (slight paraphrased from Origins)
was that she didn't believe in the Maker, not that she was totally Aethiest.

Not necessarily. Believe here can be used here as in she does not believe that they are worthy of worship, or that they actually care about humans. I think that cuz atheism is such a thing in our world it's natural to immediately jump to the most literal translation of the word but that doesn't mean it's the most contextually accurate.
I disagree. You do not have to believe in Spirits (as in fade beings) in Thedas because they are real, just like you do not believe in the postman in our world.
Saying that from their existence induces the existence of a deity (whether ones who take active interest like the old greek or gods who left after the act of creation like the chantry believes ) is the same mistake as the watchmaker analogy. Just because one does not have an explanation now on how something started there is no reason to put a creator at the beginning. Speaking with modern day knowledge the fade could very well have co-evolved with the material world, only starting to take shape when sentient beings started dreaming (hence all the spirits being linked to emotions or ideals).
It is perfectly possible to be an atheist in the setting, Morrigan is one after all as she proclaims in her banter with Leliana.
If you read the rest of my post, you'll see I came to that realization less than halfway through (Filtered through our world's perceptions) I could have edited it to make it seem like I'm incapable of internalizing new thoughts, but I figured watching someone change their mind effectively in real time on a forum was far more interesting!

Yep! It is. Stream-of-consciousness writing is best writing.
Not the best place to discuss atheism in Dragon Age.
I'm so glad you're here Cone, I was about to cry...

If this has been asked I'm sorry, but will all inquisitors be called the Herald of Andraste or will title depend on the PC?
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
That's sort of a spoiler. Rest assured, I believe we handle it in a way devout Andrastians and atheists alike can take.
Oh good, that calms my jimmies.
Yeah, unless I plan on RPing as someone that wholeheartedly takes on the role of the "Herald of Andraste", I'd rather not be called that throughout the entire game.

I'm glad to hear it. I was a bit nervous of how this was going to progress. Glad we've got some wiggle room.

Leliana: How can someone who practices magic have so little capacity to believe in that which she cannot see?
Morrigan: Magic is real. I can touch it and command it and I need no faith for it to fill me up inside. If you are looking for your higher power, there it is.

My Inquisitor will be called 'Harold'.
It kind of works... ![]()

one of my characters won't really believe in it either but unlike flemmeth who thinks names are meaningless, he will use the title Because he in his perspective names have power and weight, having that kind of a title can call on allies who are believers and lure out people against the inquisition as well.
I don't think anyone can truly be an atheist in the Dragon Age universe. You can really only be an obstinate fool. I think the farthest effective theological "Backpedaling" that can happen in Dragon Age (And in fact, just about every Fantasy Universe ever created) is being a Deists. On some level you have to acknowledge the supernatural forces which manifest themselves daily and objectively.
Then again, this is filtered through modern perceptions of religion having a monopoly on matters of spirit and the numinous. (Sam Harris' words not mine, in case anyone thinks I sound rather smart) In Thedas, the matters of Spirit (The Fade) and creation (the Gods) may in fact be separate matters entirely to some cultures. That could be the case for the Dalish, but I'm rather dumb when it comes to interpreting what the Dalish believe.
I still think you can be an atheist in Dragon Age. Spirits and demons do not equal to, nor do they imply the presence of, a creator. They might just "be", in the same way regular humans are. Literally the only "evidence" anyone in Thedas has of gods is religious texts and myths.

I'm pretty sure Destiny will win every significant Game Of The Year award for 2014, regardless of how good Inquisition or Assassin's Creed: Unity or Far Cry 4 or any other game is. And I say that as someone who has no interest in playing it. I just know that while I'm counting the hours until November 20th, all my RL gamer friends are going nuts for Destiny.
The sheer mayhem. The Keep's gonna have a record amount of saves on it, hahaha
I hope the servers can take it on day 1 ![]()
I'm gonna be very pessimistic right now and predict a GTA Online 2.0.

From what I've felt of it, Destiny actually does seem pretty damn awesome.
If I had a PS4, I'd definitely be preordering it too.
RPGs tend to be not as popular as Shooters anyway, and Bungie is a much more acclaimed company (no offense intended Bioware, I love you guys after all).

Yep, Destiny, even though I cannot play it, PC player here, has been a big favorite among all gamers.
RPGs like DA:I, while looking good, is not appealing to the masses of gamers.
IMO, Destiny will be GoTY of 2014. Close contenders will be DA:I and Far Cry 4.
