Not surprising that Destiny won. It's as overhyped as Watch Dogs was, only to be fair there is also the beta that a lot of people liked (personally can't get into it).

I just hope that gamers will stop being stuck on 'DA2 was not as good as DAO, the ME3 ending wasn't perfect' outdated thing and will give DA:I a chance since it CLEARLY is nothing like what players didn't like with the previous game.

Unless the number of accolades DAI receives from the mainstream press matters enough to control the future of Bioware's budget and/or development free rein privileges, I'm not going to sweat public acclaim much. You find a videogame writer who likes RPGs more than shooters, they'll probably like DAI more than Destiny.

But if something happens akin to that one time employee pay was tied to metacritic scores for a game (can't remember which company did that, but it was beyond stupid), then yes, the court of public opinion will matter.

So I'm curious: have I missed a tweet somewhere, or has it not been discussed what the default first names of the various Inquisitor races will be? As with Aedan for Cousland and so forth. Probably not a big deal for most fans, but I often roll with total generic names. I'm boring like that.

I might still go with Quinton Trevelyan regardless, but I wouldn't mind knowing. The wiki didn't state anything.

I think they've said that there'll be no first names.

Heading back to Canada from Cologne. Gamescom was an experience and the city is beautiful. Back to #DAI tomorrow. Can't wait.

I don't know if they've said officially. The Gamescom human was Sukkon (sp?) or something. Could've just been named by Blair, or it could be the default human.

Just a note about The Art of Dragon Age: Inquisition: Amazon finally updated their release date for it to November 18. Took them a while :)

You know what would be really cool.. if someone did decide to roll with the default name, it would be flagged as such during character creation and certain lines later in the game would actually say that name where it was appropriate. It probably wouldn't be too many - maybe during more relaxed moments where it would be natural to use a first name rather than a last name or title. That would be a pretty nice touch.

I agree that that would be neat, but I feel like many fans would feel punished for not rolling with the default name. I wouldn't necessarily agree with them, but the developers would likely take that into consideration and avoid adding such selective content.

With The Maker gone and nothing to balance evil forces the world, isn't Thedas ultimately doomed?

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

That is a good question.

Punished? It would definitely be a perk, but yeah I can see that - some people will complain about anything.

I'm pretty sure Destiny will win every significant Game Of The Year award for 2014, regardless of how good Inquisition or Assassin's Creed: Unity or Far Cry 4 or any other game is. And I say that as someone who has no interest in playing it. I just know that while I'm counting the hours until November 20th, all my RL gamer friends are going nuts for Destiny.

The Destiny Alpha and Beta were both terrific, so they would certainly be well deserved accolades, provided the full game retains that level of quality.

Remember last year. GTA V, the biggest launch in game history, and still was The Last of Us the game that won the majority of the GOTY awards.

"The experience is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was in previous iterations of Dragon Age; Inquisition might just be the best RPG Bioware has created to date."

I heard a man with no hands saw his friend playing the Destiny beta and miraculously his hands grew back, as though God (ie. Bungie) wished the man to play the gift he had bestowed on humanity!

Then the man strangled his friend and resumed playing the beta while his friend's corpse cooled nearby. It took 75 Federal Marshals to bring him down. Now, let's never speak of this again.

People shouldn't worry about DAI not receiving a GOTY, but more on how well the game will sell. DLC and the future of the franchise are more heavily connected with that factor rather than accolades (which of course helps with sales).

So, unlike previous titles, there are no auto-attacks in DA:I?

I approve.

Reading that, though, and maybe it's my exhaustion, but are we positive controlling Solas as he launches shards of ice at foes with the right trigger was not in fact a mapped spell? I know it doesn't sound like one, but...

So there are no auto-attacks as in the previous titles?

The Xbox 360 version of DA2 required you to press a button to attack while the PC version had autoattacks.  I"m not sure if it will be the same setup for DAI.
