NPC: So...you're a tal-vashoth?
Quinsitor: No.
NPC: But you're also not qunari?
Quinsitor: Correct.
NPC: I'm confused.
Quinsitor: Good.
IB: Dwarf
Varric: Kossith
IB: We don't use that word anymore, I'm surprised you even know of it.
Varric: *smirk* I'm bringing it back
I love it!
Why? If a player wants to be lore-friendly, he can give his character the tattoos.'You can use HEADCANNON to justify almost anything. That's its power ... and its flaw.'- More or less Capt. Janeway
You can come up with any number of bizarre and rediculous (not implying yours is) situations and justify them with a sufficently large improability drive. The default game (because there will be mods of some level, the Bioware fan base leaves me with no doubt) needs to be 100% lore-friendly, and the lore says adlish have Vallasin, you play Dalish they have Vallasin.

More likely Tachyon.

What benefit is there in forcing everyone to do it?
Forcing everyone to be lore-friendly.
Although "force" seems to be quite the strong term in this case given the situation.
Bioware among the Top Ten most desirable gaming developer/publisher companies to work for (according to the IGDA)...

Fans are curious about Elven racial. Does it only apply to arrows and such? Seems kind of limited if so.

All ranged attacks, including magical projectiles.

And that's my last comment on the matter in the Twitter thread.
Because the game is forcing you to be lore friendly, otherwise you get bitten in the ass when the next game comes around.I have a mod that lets me play a Dalish mage in origins. It's awesome, I wish it were in the default game so I could import her, but it's not lore-friendly and therefore Bioware is not obligated to allow it.
I think what Gaider was on about is that to anyone outside the Qun any kossith will be considered Qunari because they don't understand the intricate classification system of the Qun. However, to the Qunari a Tal-Vashoth is a kossith that abandoned the Qun. A Vashoth is a kossith that was born outside the Qun and has not been enlightened.
Edit: Basically he's saying the terminalogy doesn't matter so much because we [the players] aren't of the Qun.
Actually, the Qunari would never use the word Kossith. The Tal-Vashoth are called just that, "Tal-Vashoth". THeir considered dishonorable traitors if they've left the Qun and I imagine that those that were born outside the Qun are consider Bas, as everyone not of the Qun is.

Hmm. Alright.
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
I finally feel like a real Dragon Age writer. My phone just auto-completed "vallaslin" for me.
Duly noted.
Mine mostly auto-completes curse words, I feel like a real DA dev in the last couple of months before ship.

Thank goodness. That's what I was hoping would be the case.

Solas and "Lavellan" Are they the same dalish group?
Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes
Solas isn't Dalish. No vallaslin.

I guess that would give elves and dwarves quite the advantage racially over qunari then, given the latter get what, just 50 more health? To be fair though we don't know number values yet so it could be jumping the gun.
Very briefly breaking my Twitter break rule, without reading anything, to say I will be attending PAX in an official capacity for @bioware!
Level designer........also was a level designer for ME3 and worked on ME MP maps a fair bit....I'll predict that Pax is going to be the big announcement later in August and it will be MP.

Hmm. I don't know. 50 is a decent size in Dragon Age, from what I remember. Could be mistaken! But... yeah, it does sound a bit less impressive now. Still, pretty darn handy early on.

lol, Except almost no in thedas knows the word "Kossith" so...
Again, I imagine we won't be hearing Kossith at all in game. Though it would be interesting if we did.

I used kossith to mean the origin race to make things less confusing. I believe Bas is used to classify those not of the Qun of the other races. They are a very frustrating people, nothing is ever simple with them, is it?

Aye. It appears that the human and qunari racials help the early game a bunch, but the elven and dwarven racials play the long game.

Yes, the Qunari are rather frustrating to deal with. This is likely why they needed Rivini help to negotiate a peace treated because maker knows no one would understand a Qunari diplomat.
