Its because people have spent more time fantasizing their character’s life instead of rather than living one on their own that they’re upset that they can’t mentally escape without their LI.

 

That said, marketing team should just give out the last two LIs and race-gated information already and get it done. Headcanoning and waiting forever without knowing will just bring out more crazy tears when November heads our way.

My thoughts on this debacle 

 

1) We should learn to get over it. It happens in real life as well. You see someone, you get really romantically interested in this person and you find out they are not available or not interested in you in that way but they are still good friends with you. 

 

So what do you do, force this person to like you ? One does not simply force another to develop romantic feelings. This is part and parcel of life. Some things we get and some things we do not.

 

I really wanted Dorian as an option for my female Inquisitor but hey, he is gay. I really wanted Sera as an option for my male Inquisitor but hey, she is lesbian. So I got over it and started looking elsewhere. This is Thedas, not an enclosed small farm. There are other fishes in the sea.

 

2) Bioware's Marketing Team should be more efficient. If they know and most probably they do that they have many fans who are really into the romance aspect of the story, it would make sense for them to deal with that quickly.

 

Stringing it along like that is just...it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. What are they going to do with the fan tears and the broken hearts anyway ? Use it in some magical ritual back at office ?

What they should have done was reveal that Varric wasn't an LI when they did it with Leliana and Cole, and then leave everyone else as a 'maybe'. I really think the only reason people are so upset was because they feel strung along and for that I don't blame them at all (though that's not excuse for rude comments to the devs).

If something you want in a game isn't confirmed it doesn't hurt to temper your own expectations about its inclusion. It seems like when a lot of fans want something others take that popularity as enough confirmation for them and situations like this arise.

Yeah, speaking AS a Varric fan who was disappointed by the news, this kind of behaviour is unacceptable.  They may not have handled the announcement brilliantly, but shouting at them about it a) doesn't help, and b ) definitely won't change their minds.
