Wait, that they used the experience from making MP to make the combat work better in SP scares you? This scares the hell out of me.
This means the SP was absolutely altered to accommodate the MP game.

I don't think so. For me it looks like it was created out of existing elements of the single player. The crafting and hack and slash combat can all be done in single player. I could even go a bit further and say the hack and slash combat can be done in dragon age 2 which was a system that was carried over to inquisition.

I kind of took that to mean that by testing things there, it allowed them to do stuff better in the SP game. And/or helped them learn their way around combat so when encountered in the SP game they were more skilled in commanding the battlefield, which was gameplay enhancing for them.

The Q&A pretty clearly states it helped them formulate SP encounters and behavior, etc. I wouldn't get super worried about it. We've seen a ton of game play so far.

Question: Are MP characters' genders fixed, or are there male/female options for each character?
They are characters, so their genders are fixed, but there are men and women warriors, for instance.

Any twitter buzz about another video? That was the only thing that disappointed me about the MP announcement. (I need my fix...)

MP doesnt have an impact on SP but does SP have an impact on MP? Like you can only play a mission once youve 'unlocked' in SP?
Nope. Consider them separate.

The gameplay videos have shown me very little of note. The exploration looks good, but I haven't seen anything else that really matters.I think if you like what you've seen in the gameplay videos so far, you shouldn't have much to worry about.
The mechanics and the UI are largely a mystery to us. I can't help but wonder if they're being concealed so that they will be interpreted only in the presence of full awareness of the multiplayer.
You've already seen the reaction to the limited number of accessible abilities on the console UI.

Why use a different designed game with many features missing from the SP game to create encounters for the SP game. Surely they would of created encounters especially for the SP and tested them in SP. If Bioware combat designers needed the random maps and enemies of MP to make the SP then it is worrying about the encounters we will be facing in the game.

I was playing ME3 MP two years after the game shipped. We believe co-op MP is fun!

Also, MP served as a fantastic testing ground that made certain our combat was fun and deep.

It is wholly optional, but its inclusion absolutely resulted in a better SP experience.

how does it help the sp if mp is its separate thing ?
Because the work and problem solving on MP makes SP better

surely testing them on SP will make the SP game better
Yes, but try booting 200 hour game everytime ![]()

Leave MP stuff to Activision and DICE.
I have never played a game where there is a good soloplayer and a good multiplayer. It is always one of the other, never both.
IF something was intended as a soloplayer game, let it stay that way.

Personally i think that bioware shouldnt go anywhere near MP, they should stick with good and griping storywriting.

NWN1 is still on-going, both as solo for mods, and m/p for PW and campaigns; also a Bioware product.

Is Aaryn trying to say as a Dev he is not able to go to the exact encounter he wants and test all different types of battles and NPCs but he has to use the MP game that might not even have the same map as the SP game just to create and test encounters for SP.

Damn, we got a multiplayer announcement before some PC related stuff (UI, requirements, graphical options...)
Disappointed about the CO-OP, not because i didn't wanted it, but because i was expecting something more like BG2. You know, like they said in a panel 2 years ago (at 3:15 ), but i guess is hard to sell stuff to people in this type of co-op mode.
But it doesn't change my view that the game is looking very good and that i will definitely be buying it on the first week!

I think what they mean by "the work and problem solving on mp makes sp better" is ... you can test different types of character specializations, combos, strategies, etc ... in the multiplayer as opposed to committing to a full SP campaign to try out a new class specialization.
To give a real example from my own experience with ME3's MP and how it helped me in the SP campaign ...
First of all ... just seeing how other players play gave me an opportunity to study how they positioned their characters, learn about combos I was unfamiliar with in the game, etc. I never played the Vanguard character in the SP campaign until first trying it in the MP campaign. I learned more about biotic explosions by seeing other people perform them. I also learned more about cross-class combos by watching two other players perform them together. That experience in MP multiplayer genuinely made me a better player in the SP campaign simply because I was able to observe how other people played the game. I don't know anyone outside the internet world who plays Mass Effect so I was never able to watch them.
Does that make sense?
