Can someone send a tweet asking whether we can only map 8 abilities in our tactics menu as well?
Not as broad as DAO and DA2 :/
Good question, though I would be surprised if they did. That said, I'll fire off a tweet...

I really do like the mp descriptions. I was a tad disappointed to not be able to make my own names and such but the descriptions sound pretty good and I'll get behind playing these characters.
My f!Surana goes with the default name Neria... ![]()

*cough* ... hmm ...er...pardon me but Ashe's video of the DAI Keep ....
well...
hmmm...
Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw now
I recognize that not everyone will be happy with the change, but better to let you know about it now than a surprise later.
Ability count clarity: DAI is about roles, planning ahead and making tactical decisions. Potions, ability choice, gear, party composition.
Sorry but all that happens is it ends up being an exercise in frustration, in PvP I can understand having a LAS but not in a single or co-op game, indeed it can be seen as taking away options. And you guys are going to have to contend with this being seen as a decision made purely because of MP.
I just watched the videos and I have a class in 15 minutes. There's no chance I'll find my focus by then.
Damn, it looked so... vast! And with great artwork. The Keep will be an experience all by itself.
Show me the necromancer and human warrior!

My sincere thanks to @ladyinsanity @AbilityDrain @gamermd83 @ScottishW92 for helping us get all of you @DragonAgeKeep reveal info!

So its not because of Multiplayer?
Multiplayer characters have 4 abilities, so, no.
Please elaborate.
By allowing only eight moves - and eight hotkeys - during battle, players get used to staying in real-time rather than popping into the radial menu every other move and using that as a crutch. Thus, players who play the SP campaign largely in real-time are going to have a less jarring experience in MP when they can't pause the action.
As for the inevitable "if that's the reason, then why allow tactical camera?" question it's probably because people whined endlessly about it not being present in DA2, so they figured since there was going to be a pause feature anyway in SP, might as well make it tactical cam.
ETA: Laidlaw claims this isn't the reason, but I'm skeptical.

Will we be able to change the difficulty level, if we have a particularly tough battle? Is there a story mode, even?
You can change difficulty anytime you like.

So you're saying its a good thing they are dumbing down the game so we don't need to pause? Maybe you'd be happier if they turned DA into Diablo. For myself I prefer in depth combat, and the pause isn't a crutch, its a feature of the game. You are supposed to control 4 characters, and in intense battles pause is the only way to maintain 'realtime' control of each.

....I've just pointed this out in the PC UI thread, so I really shouldn't do it here, but doesn't limiting us to eight prepared abilities make the game HARDER, not easier? I think perhaps the issue is less acclimatising people for multiplayer, and more one of attempting to find a non inflated health bar method of making combat challenging.

I actually didn't state a preference, so calm down. I explained my reasoning for why they've changed the gameplay format very, very slightly in order to make SP and MP gameplay more seamless.
People have all sorts of combat preferences. I actually enjoy doing entire playthroughs with different gameplay, being really in-depth one time, being really involved in creating the AI tactics another, and just wading in and whaling on enemies in another (although I usually play on casual when I want to pull that). I get that you dislike this explanation, but there's really no need to be snippy at me for it.
ETA: ElitePinecone, I just noticed that you asked we move this to another thread; I'll stop spamming here.
WHOA.
I've been playing through DA:O again as a (human) mage, and her name is Neria.
O.o
Bioware, why you steal my character???
You shouldn't have to worry because Neria the twain shall meet.
....I'll see myself out. ![]()
Food time, low batt, and lots of twitter love = reply delays
but we're reading everything
ty all for feedback so far.
Only 8 abilities and that we can't change in combat.
So it means that we can't adapt to our enemies, we really need to prepare before the combat, a bit like The witcher. ( which I disliked ) 8 abilities might be enough. For a mage however, it might be a bit more annoying if passive abilities are taken into account.
At least it's not like dragon's dogma where you had to come back to the inn to be able to change your abilities.
( which could take literally 5- 10 minutes every single time you wanted to change to travel accross the countryside, really annoying )

And heaven forbid it was night time.
Keep in mind that unless you're fighting the enemy for the first time, you'll probably have a general idea of their capabilities and be able to see them before actually engaging in battle. So you'll likely still be able to adapt, just not DURING the fight.
It's stupid and illogical.
Well there we have it, folks!
