I still think it's going to be in Orlais, but I remember they said something about maybe having origins in DA3 again, perhaps we get to choose where the PC is from. But, it could mean nothing.

The game appears to take place in Orlais, Ferelden, the Free Marches, Navarra and possibility parts of Tevinter. Check out the map Mike showed at one of the PAXes last year for definite info. They're aiming to include major locations in each country, as far as I understand. (i.e. similar to the map of Ferelden in Origins, which had a few major areas)

No more Ferelden please.
Especially not a Ferelden PC.

It could be a cool new part of ferelden, and plus, i kinda want to see what's happened to it. It's not going to be the main setting of the game, just a piece.

I think it's highly likley DA3 will feature Ferelden heavily. If you have WoT, you'd notice that there is a lot of concept art of Ferelden, and in most of them there's that mysterious figure with the black and red robe(Which may be the PC of DA3). Of course, this is just speculation but it seems very likely.

Ditto for Nevarra (the mausoleums, crypts etc). Those red-robed figures pop up in a fair bit of the concept art in WoT, actually.

Page 45 even has the Inquisitor seemingly in Ferelden holding up a giant Inquisition symbol, so it's not exactly subtle :P

^this

Although, I'm not sure about Tevinter, it might just be Nevarra's northen border. All the other countries are fully in the highlighted area of that map. Including all the Free Marches cities.

Does anyone have a link to that map? I can't seem to find it, I think it was from PAX a couple of years ago?

(Also interesting thing I noticed while looking at a summary of PAX in late 2011, the companion armour system they were initially considering seems quite different to the one outlined by David Gaider about a year ago. It didn't seem to have separate armour pieces that could be mixed and matched, Wonder if it was changed due to feedback/discussion?)

The reason I initially thought Tevinter would be in DA3 was because of a potential companion outline in that survey, though I suppose the narrative arc mentioned in that could take place in other parts of Thedas.

Why not using Unreal 4 engine? I think it is better

https://en.wikipedia...i/Unreal_Engine

i. the devs can try and error things on the spot, reduced time to make amend on things
ii. look better on PC (support Window 7)
iii. less bugs

DA3 will use the Frostbite 3, which would probably be more or less on the same level of the UE4. Since Bioware is part of EA, and DICE (the makers of the FB3) is part of EA, it's logical that they'll use the FB3, and not pay for using the UE4.

Bioware.ru made a better version of the map, but it's probably "remade" from what was shown in the video. As far as I know Bioware.ru isn't an official website (and I don't speak russian).

That PAX presentation was mostly a "what we want to do for DA3" not "what we will do for DA3". We might even have a different customization system than was the blog presented last yea (but I hope Cassandra kept that look, it's just awesome).

I see...i just think that if using Unreal 4, the production time become shorter and less bugs because the devs always can change everything they do on the spot, no delay between the designers

That's not entirely accurate. Unreal was used for Mass Effect, but the Eclipse/Lycium engine was being used for DA. That engine was a decade old, so it was a matter of keeping it on life support or upgrade. If they upgraded to Unreal or Frostbite, it would have still required all the conversion work. Better to convert to an in-house engine rather than one that is not.

Yeah, it just seemed like their vision for the armour system in particular shifted a bit in the ~six months between PAX 2011 and April 2012 when Gaider made that post. The later (current?) system had individual parts that adapted to each companion rather than whole armour sets, and it sounded like they were allocating more resources to it so things like colour and material customisation could be possible. As I interpreted it, the PAX thought-bubbles were still only talking about companions having several complete armour sets that the player could swap.

I agree, I liked Cassandra's armour there. Having unique armour silhouettes with individual mix-and-match pieces as well as using colour and material sounds like a great customisation system that also manages to preserve a companion's individual 'look'.

I just really hope that we can use the stuff we find. I hated how in DA2 you scoured the land for days only finding torn trousers and moth-eaten scarves, and when you finally did find an awesome piece of armor it was always useless anyway (Hawke only, but, sorry, not your class).

DA:O did this a million times better, so if they do come up with a compromize, ANY compromize, I'm all for it.

And while we're on the subject, I can't believe they went with that star system either. Was that thing supposed to make comparing equipment easier?? Posted Image

My biggest gripe with DA2 was the inventory/equipment systems.
