I just really hope that we can use the stuff we find. I hated how in DA2 you scoured the land for days only finding torn trousers and moth-eaten scarves, and when you finally did find an awesome piece of armor it was always useless anyway (Hawke only, but, sorry, not your class).

If the system stays like the one in Gaider's blog (which is over a year old!), it'll basically be like DAO (you can swap individual companion armour pieces) except that everything now morphs to suit their iconic appearance. It does mean that everything is (probably) more useful though. Running around as mage Hawke with 11 breastplates in my inventory that nobody could wear got pretty absurd pretty quickly.

On the other hand, not having to check all companion's equipment every 2-3 levels saved a lot of time (and nerve for console players). Also, there was no Camp, so you had to regroup just to change they weapons and accessories.

Maybe a system where you can see all companions equipment windows, so you wouldn't need to scroll between them. If you select a sword/bow/staff in your inventory it will show equipment pages of all characters who can/could wear it.

I think the problem with DA2 (and, to a much lesser extent, DA:O) was the sheer over-abundance of magical equipment. You had equipment giving you bonuses to stats and resistances right from the get go, meaning that non-magical equipment was near worthless. I'd rather have more traditional equipment, with magical items being rare as all get out. This way, even a magical piece of equipment made out of weak material would still be relevant to keep using beyond its prime, since you wouldn't find, for instance, a sword that does fire damage for quite some time... even if that means forgoing better swords that are non-magical.

Having every ring, dagger and helmet you find being magically enchanted makes it a constant stat comparison job (since the Star equipment rating system was practically worthless).

From Mike Laidlaw's Twitter, 4/29/13:

Mateo Phariss ‏@redwolf6 6h @Mike_Laidlaw now without asking for too much info on DA3 will there be a choice of race for our new character?

Mike Laidlaw
‏@Mike_Laidlaw 36m @redwolf6 What we've announced is human only for now, but races are planned for the future.

This is not new information, specifically, but it is good to see race options continue to be in the plans.  I hope this will be a full version (here or in DA4, for example) and not added into a multiplayer component only.

It could be a cool new part of ferelden, and plus, i kinda want to see what's happened to it. It's not going to be the main setting of the game, just a piece.

I wouldn't mind a brief visit to Ferelden. Pretty sure it will look new with the new engine rendering the scenery.

Every time I see him say that I get even more excited for the future of the DA franchise.:)

@ElitePinecone; Yeah, I hope they do something like that. It sounds awesome the way it's been described, really. I would be satisfied with less, as long as armor isn't PC only, but this seems like a neat way to have your armor and eat it too... sort of.

@Dagr88; That's a great idea. I prefer having to update companions equipment frequently (thing is, DA:O was never so unforgiving that you actually had to), but then I really like it to be easily accessible.

@Jimmy; It was a red hot mess. I agree on your points wholeheartedly, but I don't think it would be able to save the equipment system. Too much was wrong with it for a quick fix.

It's not marketing if it's only drawing in the people who were already paying attention.

Not technically DA3-related but I had a similar reaction - interesting to see how the central character bond in Telltale's The Walking Dead became *so* universally resonant and so powerful:

I find these remarks interesting. Yes, the lighting in some areas was bad, but I generally felt that the atmosphere it provided was good, and also the textures were great, much better than the newer game, DA2.

There aren't many da3 spoilers, and the ones that are in there, are questionable.

Technically, they aren't telling us anything, either. Bioware has not come out and released one scrap of any information, rumor or fact, at all since the announcement back last Fall.

Following people's individual Twitter accounts is not at all official game marketing or information and is more akin to stalking than them actually revealing anything, telling/showing aside.

True.

With social media, it is really difficult to draw the line between what a game developer employee says on their own private Twitter account about the game they are working on and an official statement (possibly even made by the same employee) about the game.

That is why I prefer the Kickstarter approach. You have social media and, in cases like PE, a forum... but updates relevant to the game are posted in a regular place (the KS blog) and in regular intervals. Following the other media outlets is totally ancillary to keeping tabs on the game.

Bioware seems to follow the exact opposite approach - after all, through Twitter, Commander Shepherd was officially killed, Indoctrination Theory was officially destroyed and the Refuse ending was invalidated. Details about an E3 reveal are leaked out via Social Media and is then collected... by fans... on the game site's forum. But a place like the Bioware Blog, an ideal place to put breaking information about Bioware games? It is lucky to get an update once a month.

It just seems a little backward to me.
