Hearing feedback is good. Acting on said feedback for the next game is also good. But if they way you are incorporating that feedback is terrible and the fans won't be able to see that until they actually buy the game, then that is bad.

True! I think that is, for better or worse, a pretty static fact of AAA development, though. For whatever reasons, many developers don't reveal information until it's probably too late to change anything. If they do make changes, it has to be via a sequel or (increasingly) DLC - like we saw to a certain extent with Legacy/MotA. I guess the ultimate way to pass judgment on how they've incorporated feedback is the decision whether or not to buy the game. We may rue the missed opportunity to do things better ("if they'd revealed this feature a year ago we could've told them it was crap", etc) but hindsight is 20/20 and there are hard limits in terms of practicality and vision as to how much feedback the devs can use - or want to use. Particularly when one thread can have literally hundreds of contradictory suggestions.

The emphasis, I think, has to be on presenting an accurate picture of the game at launch, or in the marketing campaign - if a game is doing major things you don't like, it should hopefully be evident enough before you buy it. There'll always be a degree of marketing spin involved, but I think consistently painting a false image (or 'misaligning expectations') is a recipe for disaster in the long run. Ideally, being transparent *enough* means people won't go crazy and accuse the developers of misleading them. Maybe.

Interesting few pages.

However, threatening all the fans w/ "going dark" because you're ticked off w/one, or two, is a bit high handed and unfair.

I enjoy the lil tweets and whatnot, but hey, if you really feel you need to "go dark" and all that.. Take it out on the rest of the fans cuz of a few--then go ahead.

It's more that we are stating the alternative.

The alternative, at this point, does not include "releasing more information."

I think you mistake 'going dark' for being a punishment when it is simply a reaction to info being released in an unofficial manner (even if very minor).  If you have been around the BioWare and before that Interplay forums long enough you realize that once you get burned by giving out too much info you keep things much close to the vest and follow info release protocal very strictly.

If people want to be upset about a clamp down of info 100% of that anger should be pointed at the board members that cause the problem, not the BioWare people.  :)

In conclusion, we don't sit on DA3 information simply to torment our fans for our own amusement.

... well, there goes that theory.

He cannot speak for Gaider. I refuse to believe Mr. Gaider does not delight in our suffering. That's just not right.

Stating that our motivation for sitting on DA3 information is not to torment our fans, does not exclude us from still enjoying said torment!

It's more of a side benefit! :innocent:

And this is why the DA3 team is evil :P (jk, don't withhold info because of my comment! I'M SORRY!)

Yes. We know. And most of us are perfectly fine with that. We're just trying to have sum fun. Even Enad seems to have grown a sense of humor.

But we can't help it if a few fans grouse. And the "alternative" is a blanket solution that would affect all, not just those few fans.

I would just hope that in the future when you guys are issuing "alternatives" to ppl, that you be a bit more.....specific? Local? Discerning?

In other words, I'd appreciate not being dragged into that thing between Priestly and...whomever.

And that's all I have to say abt that.

Are you honestly trying to say that none of the details I listed are at all important?
You know you get nothing out of "defending" BioWare, right? There is no award for most deluded BSN poster. No gold star for nodding along to everything Preistly says.

You know you get nothing out of acting like a five year old who wants his pudding nooooooooowwwwwwwwww right? You're reading these teasing tweets because you want to. Cuz like you yourself said only a  very small amount of rabidly fanatic DA fans are even aware of them. Bioware is not walking into your house, tying you to a chair and forcing you to watch  a slideshow-of-possible-wonder while continuously mocking you that you're not getting it yet. Stop throwing a tantrum because you're upset the devs are talking about a game they have every right to be excited about in a unofficial capacity. Which isn't violating any kind of company policy since most of these tidbits have come from individuals in a totally unofficial capacity and not from Bioware. Which seems to be two things you have trouble differentiating.

Anyway. YAY MORE VAGUE GENERALITIES ARE COMING! :P

It's easy to have a winning argument against someone who doesn't exist.

Allan Schumacher wrote...

Given, Basil, you have
repeatedly made posts about how you want MORE information and that you
are getting very annoyed with the lack of information, I think
you're trying to actually say "It's okay to tell without showing,
because you're already doing it!" In that you're hoping to illuminate
to us that we needn't feel bound to our "show don't tell" ideal because
we already haven't been, so on some level just open up the floodgates
(even if just a crack).

Why is it that Allan is the only person here who can read what someone writes and not extrapolate a bunch of BS that was never even inferred?

Ask, and ye shall receive :wizard:

Ben Gelinas:
I'm worried about Ganders. On Monday, he battled two invading ravens outside our window. Feathers were lost. Haven't seen him since.

Ben Gelinas:
I suppose Antivan Crows is the most obvious joke.

Andre Santos:
My hand hurts from keyboarding #da3

Mary Kirby:
Every part of that super-secret meeting was awesome. Except for @bengelinas powerpoint, musical choices, and life decisions.

Not exaclty DA3 related, but this made me laugh more than it probably should have:

John Epler:
I'm trying to bring back the phrase 'what's crackalackin'?'

Mary Kirby:
@eplerjc You truly are history's greatest monster.

Well, I'm not surprised that Ganders was attacked by Antivan Crows. After, Ganders might have known information about DA3 and thus, was targeted. :(

Ganders, I salute you!

Indeed.

On a far more interesting note, I hope Ganders survived his confrontation with the crows.

It is counterproductive to hope for a conversation to stop while constantly referring to it. It also puts the onus on the other person to cease said discussion, something none of us can ever guarantee.

I understand people are very often "get the last word in" types (I am), but I vote we let yesterday's discussion be what it is and set our sights forward now.

I'm kind of glad that Bioware isn't releasing much information on DA3. When Varric was revealed for DA2 and Varric fangirls (myself included, under another profile name) went nuts hoping and screaming that he was an LI, only to find out that he wasn't... Well, that was a big disappointment. I still think he would have made a really great LI. Ah well.

It's nice to be surprised. I spoiled myself horribly with DA2 because I couldn't stay away from the forums and had to know everything.

I know how you feel, I wanted a Varric LI so badly *looks around forum* DON'T JUDGE ME!! Same thing with me though and history is kind of repeating itself because I can't stay away from these forums, but at the same time I like not knowing much, keeps my mind busy with DA3 theories when I'm bored :D
