Because of this, I wonder if it's a line of mages opposite a line of templars aka the summit meeting where the 'splosion occurs?

I think it is, actually. If you look at the top middle of the screen, when it's zoomed out, the structure in the mountains looks awfully like what we saw explode during the Enemy of Thedas trailer.

I believe that the demo is for the multiplayer, so I think we'll be picking a character instead of choosing a gender, here.
