That's the best part. The only part I was actually worried about. Maybe they wouldn't make a DA3.
But we know they're making it, and working to get it out in a timely fashion.
Maybe it's 2013. Maybe it'll be 2015. Just so long as I eventually have a release date. I don't care. They're gonna be plenty of other games to play between now and then.
2013 would be great! If that's actually the best time for the game. Everything is polished, etc. If not 2013, then so what.
And frankly, I'm happy not to hear all the marketing drivel. All I want to know is when is it coming out, a general idea of what it's abt, and sum gameplay info--customization options primarily.
I'm curious how they worked out the armor stuff. I don't even need a CGI....I wouldn't mind one, but I can really live w/out it.
As far as how they slang their own game, I'm sure they'll figure it out for themselves.

Two million is DA2 numbers. According to Chris Priestly (and basic common sense), sales of this number are going to be viewed as unacceptable. Possibly even a failure. They have to (again, using Chris' words) do "better."
If they want to try to break 4 million to get ME3's numbers (let alone to shoot for the moon and get Skyrim's 10 million numbers), they'll need to set the bar a lot higher, both in terms of game design as well as how they market. We've all seen great games get lost in the shuffle in the past. The reason why was a poorly conceived marketing campaign.
Bioware can make the greatest game of all time and sell less than 3 million copies because not enough people will be engaged by what they are told about the game. I'm not saying DA3 will or won't do such things, but it is a possibility. And a rather unnecessary possibility, at that.
True, but I've also seen games that have had years of build up and people still miss the game. I'm not saying they should reduce it to two months, but that five months is a lot of time to work with, especially if they have a lot to say in those five months.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to push back expectations now than to wait until the reveal and say, "Oh, sorry, you'll have to wait an extra four months"?
That's what I'm saying!
Why would the continue to push 2013 if they knew that they would not be making that targeted release date.
It's just seting up fans for dissapointment.

Delaying a game before anyone even knows anything about it is not a good way to start your marketing blitz. I know you're positive and enthusiastic, but there's really no legitimate reason to think it's coming this Fall.
David Gaider told us not to spread that release window, even though it came from Laidlaw and Darrah. The game basically doesn't exist yet. And they're going to have to market the HELL out of this game to overcome the damage caused by DA2 and ME3. Unveiling in mid-June and releasing in November just makes no sense.

I don't know that a short, sharp marketing blitz makes no sense. It certainly doesn't fit their pattern but I think that may be a part of the point they're trying to make here, considering how many people here have tried to make DA2 and ME3 into a pattern than proves BW is under the rush-addicted heel of evil EA.
Something substantive and exciting gets word of mouth going and the game is released soon enough to capitalize on that--where's the problem? Just because it hasn't traditionally been done this way doesn't inherently make it a bad idea. Traditionally, social media didn't exist.

There's no legitimate reason to think it's coming in 2014(Not saying it's impossible, honestly I think it's likely).
You're still bent up on David Gaiders post(I saw it) which was clearly a misunderstand on his part and thought you were saying fal 2013 was a definite date. All he was saying is that the date is subject to change and he'd rather not have people fixate on a set date.
You insist on being extremely negative and ignoring the facts. You also seem to posess this amazing insight into the marketing games and know EXACTLY how a game should be marketed.
How are you supposed to know what Bioware/EA is planning? Maybe this is what they think is best. As far as I can tell you're just a forum goer like me and not a marketing expert. So just give it a rest and let Bioware/EA do their thing. Just wait and see.

Huh... I'll need to see the transcripts from the Investor call that just wrapped up but while DA3 will be at E3, it seems like it might not be slated for even a FY2014 release based on the titles listed by EA for their FY 2014 guidance. So we might not be seeing DA3 released until after March 2014.
Yet as of 2 days ago...DA3 is still OFFICIALLY aiming for a 2013 release date.
I don't know why people can't take Mike Laidlaws word for it. If he says that's when they hope to release it, then that's when they hope to release it. It's showing no signs of being delayed so far, so until it does, I don't see why people would even assume it's going to be 2014.

Sure, I don't have any reason not to believe Laidlaw. But its interesting that EA did not bring up Dragon Age 3 as one of their games they're counting on in their guidance for Fiscal 2014 (April 2013-March 2014). And in that case, its Frank Gibeau and Larry Probst's word against Laidlaw. I'll take Gibeau and Probst. Sorry Mike.
Obviously we'll see DA3 at E3 which is awesome but the way the investor conference call went today, I'm not optimistic that DA3 is anticipated to come out this calendar year or even in fiscal 2014.
Here is what I'm talking about from the Q4 conference call today:

Then if you listen to the call, at about the 44 minute mark you have this question and subsequent answer by Larry Probst:
Q: I know you mentioned the 11 announced titles for FY14, just wanted to clarify, are these the only titles that are included in guidance or maybe is there something like a new Star Wars title or you mentioned some new games that might be announced at E3. Are those baked into guidance at all? Thanks.
A:[Probst] Yeah, the 11 titles are what we are basing our guidance on plus the 15 mobile titles Frank mentioned. So obviously mobile is a large portion. But that is what we're basing guidance around and if you feel like there is a title that's missing that's cause we probably don't have it in our title plan for the year. We're trying to be fairly focused this year and make sure that we get the Gen4 titles off the ground when those boxes are available.
Those 11 titles are the ones listed in the chart above. Probst sure seems like he's explicitly saying to only expect those 11 titles coming from EA this FY. I guess it could be possible that DA3 gets added somewhere in there post E3. But it sure seems like Probst is saying to only expect what EA mentioned today.

When you include the last sentence in Gibeau's quote, it makes it sound like he's referring to nextgen versions of BF4, Need for Speed, Madden, FIFA and NBA Live.

Perhaps EA are simply not willing to spend as much marketing this game as the last. I think we won't see an expensive CG trailer for this reason, and a more focused campaign of a shorter duration. Could that be a mistake? Maybe. But it's one explanation for the lack of marketing materials that doesn't necessarily mean that the game is delayed / not ready / etc.
This is something that crossed my mind as well. Marketing is expensive. If they save sum money marketing and put it towards the game then yeah!
Although, that's not to say any money saved will go into the game.
Any which way I'm glad we're gonna get sum news at E3,:Oand a better idea abt how far along they are. Launch dates are still fluid. I hope it's 2013, but I don't want them to mistake my enthusiasm for anything goes/get it out the door. Noooo.
Just do your best BW. I look fwd to seeing what you can imagine.

Game developers and the people associated with game marketing are last people we should be listening to when it comes to this sort of stuff. Look at how many times Chris Priestly ouright lied about content.
And like I said earlier, the last thing BioWare wants to do is announce that a game that hasn't even been unveiled(despite being announced 8 months earlier) is already being delayed. All it would do is reflect negatively on the game.

Tim Griffith:
Today is both my birthday and my first Bioversary. All in all, it should be a good day.

We're going to be at E3 to talk about #DA3! Can't wait to show some things to everyone.
Cameron Lee:
Will DA3 be at E3? Yes indeed! We'll show something for sure #DA3
Mike Laidlaw:
Oh good. We've confirmed that we'll be at E3 to show stuff. That's great!
Aaryn Flynn:
@Mike_Laidlaw Yep, should be fun
Ash Matheson:
@AarynFlynn @Mike_Laidlaw Does that mean I get to do the V/O for any trailers we do?
Mike Laidlaw:
@nuclearfossil @AarynFlynn "Well, hello there. I'm Ash Matheson. Stick with me as we take a smooth ride through an age of dragons."
Aaryn Flynn:
@Mike_Laidlaw @nuclearfossil I can practically hear the soft jazz

And now, back to doing SUPER SECRET THINGS. I'd like to tell you about them, and someday, I will.
John Epler:
Right now, though, I'm just gonna down this entire massive cup of coffee.
Aaryn Flynn:
@eplerjc You probably need it
Mike Laidlaw:
I was unclear! Yes, there will be some DAIII at E3. Not just "stuff." DAIII stuff.

Blair Brown:
Ugh, thank god, can finally say we're going to be at E3 with some #DA3 thangs.
Chris Priestly:
What are positive terms for a "fan"? There are plenty of negatives, but I'm looking for positive synonyms. Could be gaming, sports, TV, etc.
[Supporter, admirer. Groupie :D]
Raylene Deck:
Said goodbye to the ME guys (and Cathleen! -sorry about the female ratio decreasing my 50%..) and saying hello to the Dragon Age team! Sniff
[welcome, Raylene!]
Raylene Deck:
Icebreaker: laser tag with my new #DA3 team. Now that we've shot each other numerous times, I think we'll get along just fine.
