I find this to be the case in several games that when you're just watching gameplay videos and not actually playing it yourself, the effects and gameplay in general feels more disorienting and messy than it actually is once you're the one playing. There's also the fact where if you take the recent youtuber videos as an example, they, and by extension the viewers, are dropped into a party that's already level 12 with the amount of talents and spells to match.
That's quite a lot of effects to get used to all at once, but when you've actually been playing the game from level 1 onward, there would've been a gradual increase in the skills used and effects seen, giving more time to get used to them and being able to clearly tell them apart.
