That's because Thanksgiving is more about groceries, while Christmas is all about material items that cost a lot.

And 'Murica loves material items that cost a lot :)

And so does everyone else, lol.

Indeed, Christmas is simply seen to be more important than Thanksgiving. As more work, and money,  Is required to prepare for it.

I don't I'll ever really understand thanksgiving, but then that might be because I'm British.

Last off-topic: (and to avoid talking spoilers a moment more)

It has it's roots in the English Harvest Festival, so it's not without British influences,

and one can understand an excuse to show a little bravado after a good harvest in the face of impending winter.

Canadian thanksgiving being earlier is shaped by the earlier Canadian winter and its inception is attributed to a Yorkshireman.

http://en.wikipedia....ki/Thanksgiving

Anyway, on with the thread, have a great Thanksgiving Canada, and let's keep this thread spoiler free please.

That picture needs to be flipped. Would look more menacing if it looked down upon the thread for sinners people who commit long-chains of off-topic.

So any news of what the next live stream will be demoing?

Companion wise id like to see Dorian, Sera, Iron bull.

Inquisitor wise, id like to see either a male qunari mage or a female dwarf. Would love to see a spec shown, so knight enchanter or tempest for inquisitor.

The other two voice actors would be nice, but they don't need to showcase those specifically, just show us other things with Inquisitors using those voices :)

Definitely wouldnt mind some of the other two speaking. Maybe that redcliffe scene

If all works out well, it will be a keyboard and mouse set-up. I'm hoping for a qunari male too, we've seen three screenshots so far... considering how different horns seem to be for them as opposed to the females, I hope we'll see some customization before I boot up DAI.

When I first picked up ME1, I ended up spending 4 hours creating my first Shepard... only to go in game and find out that things had gone terrible terribly wrong. >.> In DA:O, it took me about 5 hours to finally make my Cousland. DA2 only tool me about an hour, but I didnt want to mess with the presets too much.

But the DA:I CC just looks super gorgeous so Ill probably end up spending most of release day(and then some) learning to play with it.

I just did this in DA2 again recently, I thought "Yeah, she looks fine", along comes the cutscene "OMG what is that monstrosity?!  It burns!"

I'm glad they've thought about this and made sure it isn't likely to happen again, I'm very grateful for it.

I'm not 100% sure so I could be wrong, but I think George R.R Martin used that quote in one of the youtube convention videos about GoT.

Edit: As for who came with the original I have no idea :P

My Google Fu tells me it was originally an English author and journalist named William Henry Davenport Adams, a man I've never heard of.  The original form of it from 1892 was:

“That great poets imitate and improve, whereas small ones steal and spoil.”

"Spoil" in its old meaning of "despoil" - to ransack, to rip apart looking for goodies.  Much more poetic :P

It almost sounds reversed, though.  A much more famous author, T. S. Eliot, said:

"Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal"

Which is closer to our quote.

But I think it's something every writer worries about.  As I talked about in other threads, the best creative efforts aren't about creating something new from scratch (the few experimental writings like that tend to be awful) but about putting a new, fresh spin on something old that's in line with the times.  All these hero stories we're playing are new forms of the oldest story that was told around campfires from the first ages of prehistory, and tie into ancient threads of heroic sacrifice and witch-goddesses who have god-children with heroes.

But these versions are versions that could not have existed even a hundred years ago in our culture, with their women and gay warriors, their comments on racism, the metaphors for ecological destruction, their postmodern approach to the problems of historical accuracy and the nature of truth.  So they're a fresh spin, and are used to convey new ideas that are now relevant.

Interestingly, the original Davenport quote was about Lord Tennyson apparently, who's most famous for his long, epic poem about King Arthur.  He turned King Arthur - that great fantasy hero - into a metaphor for English nationalism.  The Arthurian stories had already been used to express Renaissance mysticism, medieval chivalric values, and as a cloak for Pagan myths surviving into the Christian era.  And they have their echo again in the Morrigan-Morgan-Le-Fay/Alistair-Arthur dynamic :)

(sorry for all the off-topic stuff.  It's Thanksgiving, and a long weekend coupled with anticipation of a great meal is making me less coherent...)

Maybe because Thanksgiving is only celebrated in the USA.

The first day. (Night, assuming it has a midnight release.) I will simply sit, drinking code red as I constantly mess with the CC. Possibly starting the game for 5 minutes and then deleting the character because I don't like the way they look.

I have done this for every Bioware game, I have a problem it seems.

Had this "problem" with Dragon's Dogma. Character Creator couldn't give a nice preview, so when the game starts I could see that something was wrong, then started all over again.

I'm not sure about what's Thanksgiving. We have nothing like that here in Brazil (but we have lots of holidays, it's Children's Day today, haha)...

Apparently they put a fair bit of effort into making sure the lighting in the character creator matched that used by all the cinematics so hopefully it's less of an issue with DA:I.

Really? I never had that problem with Dragon's Dogma. Made two different characters there and was happily impressed with how i didn't mess up. Love that game, still like my number 1 favorite game to date.

You've popped up at the end of the dead zone (ie the time when the Canadian devs are asleep and not tweeting). Given that it's a holiday weekend things are going to be even quieter on the tweet front than usual. And you're hardly helping ;)

Guys, let's not fill the thread with random chatter just because the devs are enjoying a brief bit of vacation. If there aren't any tweets or short conversations about said tweets, no one HAS to post in here.

We've already been de-pinned. Let's not get locked too.
