I just figured it out - you have to enable the HTML 5 player in YouTube, and then you'll have the option available.

Neither am I. It's not nearly as smooth as the Combat Gameplay one, though it's a bit smoother than the original trailer.

Kinda makes sense. Gifts are gone and approval seems to be mostly gained through decisions you take while in the field, and thus it would seem that it'd be hard to raise approval without taking a character with you.

Hasn't it been like that in all Dragon Age games?  You generally bring the one you want to romance with you most places.
