I believe 11 total... unless you count any of the information mentioned today to be a reveal or "real" information... in which case you would need to tip your bottle up.

As with all drinking games, it is much wiser to count a drink as a swig of beer rather than a shot of liquor.

We lost good men to liquor drinking games. So many good men...

I did shots of liquor.

Short answer: No necessarily
Medium answer: QA isn't only about testing the end product.
Long answer: Check the gamasutra articles links in this thread.

Alan (BioWare QA Extraordinaire) has mentioned on several occassions that he and other members of the QA team have been involved from the get-go.  ^_^

So, anyone figure out what FAT stands for? Something related to combat, it seems. At least we know what BOS is now...

my guess it "Forever Alone Team", which is in charge of romance plots

but then again probably not

FAT team was mentioned in context witht he combat team, so it is probably related to combat.  Unfortunately, I don't know enough of the dev jargon to suss it out.

Also, RIP team is scary in it's implications from name alone.  Probably composed entirely of nugs.

For the record, I counted 15 (I gave Evil Chris credit for mentioning the hostile takeover, though, so it's arguable).
I only did 10 (and switched to beer after 2 - god, and also to chase those first two shots) before I had to leave my house.  If you manage to do 15 shots and survive, Dave, I might propose.

And also a GIGANTIC thank you to DaytheElf and Serenai for gathering all the tweets so that I could more efficiently get wasted.

I'm excited about environmental sounds like birds in trees and stuff. It's a small thing, but it helps for game immersion.

What would be even better for immersion would be if you could see the bird in the tree. And all sorts of other animals scurrying about, like that sweatered monkey.

I think monkey farm is some kind of developer tool for game-build maintenance or something.

It's come up a few times in sprint review days, though much less exciting than monkeys running around in sweaters.

Agreed but I hope it doesn't reach the level of the Mabari-constantly-barking-at-camp annoyance factor of DA:O

As much as I loved my Mabari I was prepared to muzzle him. Unfortunately none of the markets in Ferelden had a muzzle for sale. :P

No. We pretty much always have some level of QA support for any project, except maybe experimental prototypes. I have been on the project since preproduction, with my first day being in September 2011 or so. So for about 1.5 years or so, I have been focused exclusively on DA3.

QA are kind of like the Marines of game development, one of the first ones in and the last ones out.

Eh, that's probably a bit too flattering of an analogy haha. Especially when looking at the industry in general. QA does tend to be one of the "later" teams for a lot of studios. Even at BioWare, the bulk of our QA team is created towards the end of the project. We just include members that integrate earlier.

QAE (since people are concerned about the acronym) is QA Engineering, which is basically a small group of mostly programmers, that do most of their work in helping support the QA team (and projects in general). They aren't typically assigned to any one project, but for DA3/BW Frostbite games, they have created services that allow people to use a web service to report bugs, an automatic crash center that logs fatal crashes, to mark maps with common locations of bugs, and so forth.

Eleven done, decided to go with the lighter 24% liqueur because I've been drinking rum since the late pm.

As usual, I apologize in advance for my English is very bad, in short I will try to express myself better.

I just want to encourage whole team for E3. I know many people will sometimes wrongly criticized. I want to thank you for having created this universe that is magical and beautiful. I'm sure DA will live up to its ambitions. do not be afraid and be proud. You have many fans in France and I hope to see you at Paris Games Week!

Just to add to this... in most agile development, the developers have user stories (testable tasks) they have to complete each sprint. These need to be tested for correctness, for stability, and against other game elements that were also introduced to make sure nothing crashes, and that means a QA presence. There's often embedded QA (like Allan) who works with specific teams to make sure that they get all their stuff done each sprint, and who logs both the finished stories as well as any bugs that may have been introduced.

QA does tend to ramp up near the end because the need to verify is much higher as you get closer to certification, but it's always there during regular development. That said, most of QA done by big publishers isn't handled in-house anymore either. They now have remote locations where entire teams of testers bang on games. EA has at least one facility dedicated to QA in Louisiana, and I think Ubisoft keeps one on Toronto. I had heard that Activision was planning on opening one in Las Vegas as well. It's more efficient than having to keep separate QA teams in Edmonton, LA, Gothenburg, Vancouver, Montreal, etc.

That made me think of the "Heres Johnny" scene from The Shining, but with Sandal looking through the door.

So i'm on the recovery parth. It was a long battle against overwhelming amounts of alcohol but in the end we were victorious and it's time to prepare for future drinking battles that will come, ready or not!

Gosh i feel better than i anticipated after last night. Really happy that i didn't see the DISENCHANTMENT with Sandal before i went to bed, that would've been horrible!

This Posted Image I love the Dragon age universe and am very excited to see what you guys have in store for us. I never enjoyed games as much as I have enjoyed the Dragon Age series. I fell in love with Dragon Age Origins the minute I started playing it. Dragon Age 2, truthfully may have needed a few changes, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the story of Hawke and her companions, and the kind of love triangle that went on between Hawke, Anders, and Fenris, at least that is how I saw it. I also felt there was a lot of emotion and depth in Dragon Age Origins. There was also plenty of that in my opinion in Dragon Age 2; i.e. When Hawkes Mother died. Sure it needed some work but I did not enjoy it any less. I understand when new things are tried it doesn't always work out as planned. I forgave that and did my best to enjoy the elements that were great about DA 2. I have a good feeling from what I have read on the forums and seeing the things you, the Devs, added in the download content for DA2 that you have been listening to us and have been trying your hardest to bring us a really epic new installment in the series that hopefully we all can enjoy. Even though it is impossible to please everyone, I feel you will make your best effort to bring us a new and fascinating story to add to the Dragon Age series. (If you made Cullen Posted Image a love interest/romance option I will love you even more Posted Image lol), but either way I am sure Dragon Age will always be one of my most memorable games and stories. Thank you Bioware for your hard work!!

Great post, I agreed with almost everything you said. Every time I play a new game now I just say "I miss Dragon Age" it has ruined all other games for me :P. Thank you Bioware for giving me my favorite games of all time.
