I promise you that number would be much higher if Varric were a romance.

So glad I wasn't the only one thinking this.

So Vivienne is woman of Iron ?

Her nickname is "Madame de Fer", so I'd go with "Lady of Iron", but my French is a bit rusty. But then there's the possible "Iron Lady" connotation, which whould be a bit political...

EDIT: Dragon Age Wiki tells me that "the Lady of Iron" is the "official" translation as well

I don't know for all characters but this change was needed for the "I am Lord Voldemort" anagram.

Yeah, in the danish translation, they had to call him Romeo instead of Tom!

And all the funny last names were translated to keep the meaning.

I presume that the survey only focused on first playthroughs, so the numbers are probably a bit higher since some of us will play all the genders/races/classes/specialisations/party configurations/romances, etc. eventually.

Gah I forgot It was Lady not woman.

Ah, I never consciously translated her name until I saw Iron Bull. Just assumed Fer was a place :)

Pls forgive me, but could not help but think that a Great Bear (ie; 2100+ hp) is when a really good Calm or Fear spell would help save a lot of time on the trail.

Don't ask me, I never understood the concept. You can't imagine how weird it was to read Harry Potter in French where Tom Riddle is Tom Jedusor...

Well in Harry Potter it made kinda sense, because Tom's full name always needed to be an anagramm for "I am Lord Voldemort" in that particular language. So they had to change at least the last name in order to keep that.

I saw a mistranslation of Iron Bull into spanish as "Toro de Plancha" which basically means The Clothes Iron Bull, or Skillet Bull, or like Dinner Bull. Even Toro de Hierro is bad, and I have mostly seen this, because that has the connotation of like vitamin Iron more than elemental/material Iron which is Fierro. Translations. Either way, his name lacks a lot of the effect in Spanish/ possibly French as it has in English. Even Torro de Fierro has a sort of... "dinner time" connotation or like a bull that has been branded.

Spanish girl here. "Hierro" does not have that connotation at all. That translation ("Toro de Hierro"), though I'm not a fan, is correct. Funny that "fierro" is actually how we say "iron" in Asturias (north of Spain) in our own language ;)

He wasn't the only one. Everyone with a "special" name got changed. Even the school, Hogwarth became Poudlard.

Are you Spanish? Haha Fierro is not even a word! :S at least not in Spain! Toro de Hierro sounds quite nice, really, like a bull made of iron or a bull strong as iron :P

As I recall it was Tom Elvis Jedusor.  I have to admit I found the middle name a little odder.  Hard to take a dark wizard seriously when he's named Elvis :P

I guess Iron Bull's name is translated because it's a nickname, while Blackwall is a real name - that's standard in French media to translated the nicknames of famous figures, but real names haven't been translated in a long time (very old works will translate the names of monarchs, for instance, but that doesn't happen now).
