So bizarre, considering all the various other customizable minutiae in this game.

Oh well. I don't think it looks that bad on the male Dwarf.  Need to see the outfit on male human though.

Yea. Hopefully the male human one won't offend my fashion senses too much. :P

I'll live either way.

It's still a bit weird to have them go: Dozens of mounts! Hundreds of different weapons and armor! Thousands of Skyhold combinations! Bazzilions of different face combinations! and one casual outfit.

At least an option to choose to wear our armor in Skyhold would be nice, if making more than 1 outfit is complex for X reasons.

Perhaps wearing armour is impossible because it would break the memory budget too.

I think we should assume that they've already thought of all the complaints, and that making Skyhold big and complex was a higher priority than giving the player more casual options.

So, since, like billions of you are asking: no, you cannot change you Skyhold outfit. Maybe someday, but not at launch.

User

@Mike_Laidlaw Ah that's too bad. I would think a couple of extra outfits wouldn't have been too much extra work, but it's no biggie.

@User Sure. And how do you change them? A new UI. And how do you fit them in memory, and... and...

User

@Mike_Laidlaw I understand Mike, it's for the better I'm sure. Would it require a new UI though? Can't use the same UI as the armor screen?

@User In general, if it were "really easy" assume that we would have done it. If ti wasn't done, it wasn't "really easy".

As long as he seems to be in the mood to answer questions anyone care to ask him if there's a reason we can't just wear our normal armor in Skyhold?

Hmmm... I wonder if someone was inspired by The Children of Húrin.

Hope so, that story was awesomely tragic.

We allready saw armor being worn in skyhold, but apparently it only is possible during missions there, which shows it's possible to have armor in skyhold and they needlessly constricted us with this.

Or maybe when you have accepted a mission you are locked out of chit chat with companions/advisors etc until you complete the mission. Which means memory moves over to the mission/gear if that makes any sense? I dont think they needlessly restricted us with anything. But im just guessing?

It's better not to use the word "needlessly" when you have no idea why they did what they did, or the details of the game's memory management system, or the specifics of why they've only allowed one casual outfit.

As Mike said, if it were easy to do something, they would do it.

I suspect that you can wear armour in Skyhold maybe one or two times in the entire game.

We know there's a Skyhold tutorial mission where you go around to check out the War Table, etc. Perhaps the reason you can wear armour here is because the level isn't loading everything else that Skyhold normally has (characters, upgrades, quests, companions) - just the small amount of stuff required for that intro mission.

Chats don't have the same memory as graphics. In Order to display armor you mainly need the model of the armor and the textures. The textures are the one that need much memory exspecially as they need to be used by the graphiccards, which often have a limited amount of internal memory. Chats, aka audiofiles, are located on the ram. Everything that would share the same memory as armor, which are the environment textures and so on will be loaded wether you are doing a mission or not.

That's why i asked earlier for someone to ask mike why it's not possible to wear our armor in skyhold.

*shrugs* i dont know how any of that stuff works, but it is what it is. Maybe later down the track we will get DLC for more casual wear? All im saying is that i really dont think anything was done needlessly. And that to give us one thing might have come at the expense of another? But anyway them tweets huh.

It's plausible that we can't wear armour at Skyhold to reduce clipping in certain cutscenes - it's far easier to do something like that with one outfit fits all compared to the possibility of various heavy armour, light armour, robes...

I wish people would try to focus on the lavish dynamic enormously customisable base they've worked incredibly hard to build us and less on the minutiae of what you're allowed to wear while you explore it.

@User In general, if it were "really easy" assume that we would have done it. If ti wasn't done, it wasn't "really easy".

It's adding the UI element that would clearly be the larger part of the issue.  Changing the colour or the entire look would probably be easy by comparison, for a given definition of "easy", obviously.  I would imagine that since the casual look is not something that can be equipped in the traditional sense the inventory UI wouldn't be the right place for it.

The most logical option would be the Skyhold customisation UI, or a replication of it; either you set the Inquisitor's look when you're changing the décor of the castle, or you have a separate UI based off that system that you use in the Inquisitor's bedroom.  Click on the wardrobe, perhaps?

Personally, I don't have a problem with the one we have at the moment.  I suspect it will look better in the actual game than it currently looks in the slightly blurred streams we've been seeing.  Clearer textures, light effects and so on.  It looks like it should be kinda leathery to me... at least in part.  That being said, more customisation options are not a bad thing.

He is in a middle of a very stressful crunch, work overtime and the future of the franchise may well rest on how this game performs. Give the man a break will ya.

Besides, some of us thinks the outfit look fine.

I know someone else has probably said it, but I'm going to say it anyway - the outfit does not look like pyjamas.  Once we can see them more clearly in the game I am sure it will look much better.

To be honest, I think they look like a lighter coloured version of this, found while looking for some slightly more generic reference examples:

Indeed, i certainly don't feel anything akin to pJ from that outfit.

Or is it that you Americans have some very fancy PJs?

The problem is that it's rather bland. It doesn't got any color, no ornamentation, nothing. It doesn't look really medieval and looks particular out of place next to the incredible outfits of your advisers. These outfits looks gorgeous while the Inquisitors outfit looks pretty bland.

Why people are saying it looks like Pyjamas?

Bland Color, skin-tight outfit and when you don't pay really close attention it looks like it's a 1 piece-outfit. Like Pyjamas.

But as i allready said a big part of it is the bland color, that just doesn't fit to a person, that's supposed to have monarch-like power.

If they would have just given it a more regal color, like velvet red for example, it wouldn't be that much of a problem for people.

Do not confuse being in power with being ostentatious.   They often go together, but a character does not need to be richly and colourfully dressed in order to be recognised as being in charge.  In fact, the contrast can make them stand out, and the simplicity of a commander's uniform can speak volumes about their character.

... While everyone else looks actually more regal than yourself?

But as Pinecone said we probably shouldn't discuss this here anymore.

Just one last comment.

This is how a regal military outfit should look like in my opinion.
