I agree 100%. I don't see why a fantasy setting should be any "better" than our own. If sexism (or racism or homophobia or whatever) is part of the world that the storyteller wants to create, then so be it. It's not an indication that the storyteller himself/herself possesses those traits.

Agreed.  It's a dark world because it's meant to be.  I'm far, far more offended by utopias, usually, because when you build a utopia you can be very offensive by what you leave out (as a gay person, I notice how rarely I wind up in any utopia).

Because this one is for the normos who don't BSN like the cool kids do.

Or anything at all, really. Not just utopias lol.

I'll say this, though: removing particular types of oppression from a game world (such as sexism) doesn't necessarily make it a utopia.

I agree there's a difference between a sexist (or homophobic or whatever) setting and an oppressive story. If we do include those things in settings, it gives us more of an opportunity to actually deal with them in the narrative in some way. Thedas has sexism...but it also has stories that feature characters like Morrigan, Celene, Aveline, Cassandra, Leliana...all interesting, different women who have important roles to play and stories.

I can accept homophobia in a setting, for instance. The total absence of queer characters, however, is a different thing entirely.

I'm glad you mention this because the same could be said about the Witcher series and Yennefer, Ciri, Triss, Phillipa, Sile, Saskia, and Ves.

I disagree but I won't derail the thread about it.

Because it's another way of telling people that Xbox One has dropped in price till January.

Methinks.

Hm...this is the last thing I'll say on this because this is the twitter thread (and you can PM me or start a thread if you want), but I might also add that Thedas has sexism...and female characters that are featured in non-objectified sex-object ways by the PC, plot, or character designers (and art people). I haven't played any of The Witcher games and I don't mean to suggest that those characters are useless or unimportant or universally bad...but there are other problems with those games in the sexism department. So basically...looking at the good and the bad at the same time, and appreciating the great while still acknowledging the problems.

I love that Isabela is a sexual character, for instance, but I still think her outfit is silly in DA2.

Take it to PMs if you please, ladies and gentlemen. This thread is not the place for such discussion.

I actually I agree with him for once. There's a BIG difference between a sexist storyteller and a story told in a sexist setting (or whatever form of inequality). That tends to get lost in the shuffle when fingers get pointed.

Often people use that difference to justify sexism of devs though.

Some Witcher fans justify bouncing boob animations because 'it's a sexist setting', for example, which makes no sense.

@Ryan_Treadwell

When you work on RPGs you really expand your vocabulary. I have added Artificer, Undercroft and many other lovely words to my repertoire!

I am sorry, I know this is Off topic but I don't know where else to ask this(I couldn't find any thread for this).

I remember reading in this thread sometime ago that different vendors have different pre order bonuses. Can someone tell me what is the difference between gamestop deluxe edition and origin deluxe edition? Is there any advantage of one over other?

Thanks in advance.

sorry EP.

I believe the Deluxe edition includes everything. It's the standard editions that are different.

I don't believe there is any retailer specific dlc at all this time around. I see the flames of inquisition pack listed everywhere. Nothing else.

There are few who can. The language is that of BSN, which we dare not utter here.

In the common tongue, it means:

One trailer to rule them all, one trailer to find them,

One trailer to bring them all, and in the Hrungr...bind them.

Really looking forward to stinking up the party in DA MP. If you play PS4 and run into a rogue who thinks he's a tank, it might be me. :)

Derek Hollan @Derek_Hollan

We'll get you trained up Patrick! ;)

I am, I dare say, a NOT BAD support class (the Dalish Keeper), but I always WANT to be the skirmisher, despite being terrible at it.

Brianne Battye @bbattye

Barriers for everyone!! :)

Patrick Weekes @PatrickWeekes

I still gotta get the upgrade that reduces the cooldown. I just needed Fade Step to freeze people first.

Brianne Battye @bbattye

Completely fair :) I bee-lined for faster movement and high-ground advantage for my archer. Now I just need all the arrows!

Mary Kirby @BioMaryKirby

I could play Legionnaire next time, if you need to cast barriers, man. #swords4life

So terrain can have an effect on archers' accuracy and/or damage? Have we heard this before?

I don't recall seeing anything like higher ground advantage in the SP talent trees, it may even be a MP only ability...

Nah, I wanna get the hang of building Guard. Sooner we all get high level, sooner we can actually beat a match. :)

Could just be higher ground is harder for enemies to reach, thus making your archers safer. Tactical positioning and all that.

It's probably in the passives of the Archery tree. Out of the 4 passives in the tree, we only have 1 completely documented.
