Could just be higher ground is harder for enemies to reach, thus making your archers safer. Tactical positioning and all that.
If you look at the whole conversation you'll see that Brianne is talking about an upgrade in her MP character's talent tree that gives it a high ground advantage so this seems unlikely.
I don't recall seeing anything like higher ground advantage in the SP talent trees, it may even be a MP only ability...
It might be coded into the base combat algorithms. Higher elevation = more damage. Kind of thing? Maybe.
So terrain can have an effect on archers' accuracy and/or damage? Have we heard this before?
Line of sight & distance are both advantages against melee opponents regardless if the numbers crunch in your favor or not.

No, Patrick says that he will get the upgrade to improve his keeper's barriers by shortening the ability's cooldown but that he really wants to get Fade Step first. Brianne replies by saying that this sounds fair to her and mentions that the first upgrades she went for are the faster movement and high-ground advantage. Now she's look to add arrow upgrades (I assume these are things like elemental arrows, anti-spell arrows and so on.)

Ok, found them! On the left side, it appears the first passive might be the one giving high ground advantage, cause the bow is pointed down towards the ground at an angle. The second passive on the left shows an archer moving as if running. This screenshot is from the SP version of the Archery tree.
