Demos show a far more accurate representation of a game than trailers do.

 

 

Though the Demos we've seen have also avoided covering any part of the story, well beyond meeting that priest lady.

 

This, basically. Apart from the official trailers and the E3 demos, we haven't really seen much from a story side of things. I guess much of the skepticism towards the story exists because, well, we didn't really get much exposure. Not even to side quests (apart from a couple of fetch quests).

That's a good thing. I don't want the story revealed.

But I would like the mechanics revealed, and they're doing a fairly poor job of that.

Damage formulae and prerequisites for abilities. How stats increase as you level up. What the stats actually do (what does a 12 strength do compared to a 10 strength?). Range, damage, and rate of fire for different weapon types. The effects of various crafting materials. How armour works. How To Hit calculations work. The effects of missing. The details of the difficulty settings. The benefits of jumping (and whether it can be done from the Tac Cam).

There is much we don't know.
