I don't think you can side with the Red Templars.  The Templars you side with are normal.  

If those are the normal Templars, I hate to think what the weird ones will look like. The one on the left seems to have caught the Red Death and the other looks like a trainee axe murderer.

 

I think I want an option to smack both sides around the head until they do what I tell them.

I guess we should stop talking about it but keep in mind that all templars (or just about all of them) are addicted to lyrium (the blue kind). Knowing that the Carta and their lyrium supplies play into the story as well could be a clue as to why the templars are looking a little ragged.

Looks like we can either meet a win condition just by spreading the Inquisition's influence, Civilization-style, or we can smack the Elder One in the face without needing to max out the Inquisition's reputation/influence. Probably the latter, but the former would be an interesting twist.
