Since when does a company that's been araund for 17-18 years and has delivered 15 great games has anything to prove?

We always need to be proving ourselves. All game companies always do.

Having said that, I don't know how big the Far Cry franchise is, so I don't know if Basil's assertion is significant.

Far Cry 3 is a shooter in a hugely successful franchise. Inquisition is an RPG in a middling franchise from a company that's got a lot to prove.

How much of that is just your perception, though? From what I've seen, the success of Origins, both critically and commercially, was comparable to that of any entry in the Far Cry series (though anything you can easily track down on the internet regarding game sales has to be taken with a grain of salt). DA2 didn't sell quite so well, but it was still pretty successful (commerically, and with professional critics) in its own right.

BioWare's reputation was tarnished through DA2, but it was ME3 that really hit the crippling blow. This is what I think Basil means by "a lot to prove." Anything with BioWares name on it will be bought with caution by the majority, I think.

Of course, I'm a sucker so I'll buy it on release. :D

I wasn't really responding to the "a lot to prove" comment, though. More the part that describes Far Cry as a "hugely successful franchise" and Dragon Age as a "middling franchise".

I wouldn't argue that BioWare's reputation is in need of a bit of repair. I don't think it's quite so damaged as one might be led to believe were they look to certain corners of the internet, though.
Then again, you could argue that BioWare's diminished reputation still carries more weight than "Ubisoft made this". Some great games have come out of Ubisoft Montreal, but so have some terrible games. People generally don't put much stock into a Ubisoft game simply because it's a Ubisoft game.

Far Cry threw the gauntlet down toward Bioware specifically by calling their expandalone title Blood Dragon, obviously. Anyone can see that. They are now in direct competition.

For all of you wondering if DA3 is next-gen exclusive, here's some food for thought:
www.egmnow.com/articles/news/ea-to-support-xbox-360-and-playstation-3-for-the-next-four-years/

I think it's pretty safe to assume DA3 will be, at least, on current gen consoles. Statements like this aren't usually massively specific in regards to which games will be on which systems.

Enjoy. Or panic/start rumours/threads/rage like a maniac like the BSN is prone to.

Thank God Frostbite is hugely scaleable... I hate having to put up with 360 graphics when my PC could do 10 times that!

It is. If you ever get the chance to drive from say Calgary to Edmonton- don't.

Yeah, that's pretty well every city on the Canadian prairies, along with the prairies themselves. An old joke from my province is that if your dog runs away, you'll still be able to see him for the next three days. :P

Edmonton does have some big buildings downtown, though. And it has that accursed mall, which is a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Any chance we'll get a release date with the reveal? I must admit I'm more excited about it than the reveal itself.

Well, for one thing, I wouldn't say that Bioware has delivered 15 great games.  One of their recent  games  (DA2) was  probably one of the  dullest, most mediocre games I've  had the misfortune to purchase in the  last 17-18 years.

Second, any consumer would be foolish to just ignore the  fact that Bioware has changed quite a bit from what they used to be.   Even if you're  of the opinion that  these changes  were for the better,  they're still changes, which means the distant  past  isn't as relevant as your question demands it be.

Third, and this applies to every company....  You're only as good as your last product.    It simply doesn't matter  what you did when you were a kid.  What matters is what you just did.

The fact of the matter is that the Dragon Age Series is on shaky legs at the moment.  Bioware most certainly DOES have plenty to prove here, and they will be the first to admit it.    Fortunately for them, they have a loyal fan base with tons of open minds  ready and eager to let them prove  themselves.

I was actually wondering where Luke was, good to know that he's still around. I loved what he did with Aveline in DA2 too.

Also, can we have more Jade Empire please?!.

No sale, Mike.  You peddled this exact attempt at Name-dropping BG  just before Dragon Age 2.  Won't work  on me this time.

They named dropped BG before Dragon Age: Origins. I take it that it worked back then, no?
