@Mike_Laidlaw I have a quick question about DA:III. Will our character be a Shepherd ripoff or our very own character (no preset last name.)
Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw
[@user] You'll have to wait and see. Of note, though, Origins characters had fixed last names, too.
[user]
@Mike_Laidlaw I should have worded my tweet better. I also meant having a wider variety of responses like in Origins. -continued-
@Mike_Laidlaw -continued- and not just two or three dialogue options. I mean no disrespect and I'll be getting Inquisition either way.
Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw
@[user] No worries. We'll do a deep dive into dialog systems at some point, but now's not the time; better with visuals.

Smells like Mass Effect...
No. What would "smell" like Mass Effect is if we were limited to two squadmates, forced to fight without an autoattack, a fixed over-the-shoulder view, limited leveling branches and uncontrollable companions.
Set-protagonists and voiced PCs existed before Mass Effect within the RPG genre. Hell, even infamous auto-dialogue existed during the "golden 90's" era of RPGs. And no, I'm not talking about FF, here I'm talking about the BSN's favourites.

Hmmmmm. Well, I'm now bracing myself for a complete lack of substance at the E3 event. I'm readjusting my expectations from an actual reveal of the game down to a whiz-bang CGI trailer.ElitePinecone wrote...

Not that I'm surprised, given that E3 is a poor venue to do an in-depth reveal... but just a little disappointed.

To me, it seems that Tweet is stating they want to focus more on visuals than actual mechanics. If the dialogue interface, arguably the most used aspect of the game aside from combat, isn't going to be discussed, then I would say the chances of seeing much more than either a CG trailer or a video of actual gameplay that only consists of walking around and looking at all the new "shiny" graphics and environments is low.simfamSP wrote...

Not that this is the worst thing ever... but if it is the case, it really would make me wonder what they were waiting so long to demo.

I read that tweet as saying it was easier to discuss the dialogue system with visuals to show it in action, rather than doing it with just abstract discussion which is all they could do right now.
That's how I read it too.

Same, that's how I read it.
I think he's saying he'd rather not describe it, but show it.
I could be wrong, but that's just how I interpreted it.

Hmmmm. I could see that... but saying "now is not the time" sounds funny to me. I don't think anyone would actually expect a dialogue system reveal via Twitter, would they?

I'm fairly sure that's what he meant, yeah.
Not "visuals" as in the graphics or art of the game, but visuals to better explain the dialogue system.

Fast Jammy, I though the same thing you did.
And I'm still expecting E3 to be rather superficial in term of info. Mostly, because the only people that will be asking questions are going to be the "gaming press" and, well, the only questions they seems able to ask is if games will run on console X and make use of Y....

Bioware Edmonton have something in the works for E3 that's separate from the trailer being designed in LA, and whatever it is requires revisions/improvements.

As long as we're speculating, I'm thinking a playable next-gen demo on stage at EA's press event and then at their booth at the convention proper.

Hmm, that does rather sound like there won't be much at E3, maybe just a CGI trailer, and that they'll get to the good stuff later.
