Wow, they're actually nervous about the reviews.

I guess that If I had worked as hard as they did on this game, I'd be, uhm, somewhat fidgety at midnight, to say the least.

I worked on a complete overhaul of several of our systems at work for about two years. I was pretty nervous when we finally flipped the switch so I can understand why they're nervous.

The other reason they're nervous is simply that there's a lot riding on DA:I. A lot of people lost a good bit of faith in Bioware after DA2 and ME3 (and to a lesser extent, the early days of TOR). Especially after ME3. Gaming media gave DA2 and ME3 great reviews but then turned their opinions around after the fan backlash, so they're going to be more critical this time around. If DA:I reviews well it'll show that Bioware still has the talent to make kickass RPGs (which, IMO, they never lost).

So yeah, they're understandably nervous. I honestly think DA:I is going to get great reviews though and that they've handled the previewing and marketing well (aka letting actual gamers play the game and post to their Youtube channels).

Even if they're proud of their work and confident in its quality, it's always nerve wracking to expose something you've been working on for a long time! There's always the fear---however irrational---that you're the only person who likes it and that people won't get it or enjoy it the way you do. Which I guess some people might say "it's the art itself, it doesn't matter what people think of it"....but my experience is that's not accurate for like 99% of creatives.

I have like, second hand anxiety for them, lmao.

For those who were on the fence over whether or not to watch the Prologue Stream: It wasn't that spoilery, we learn a bit about the events immediately preceding the breach (but not a whole lot), and quite a few interactions between Cass, Solas, Varric and Leliana. But not much information we couldn't guess about before was revealed.

It's not so much the spoilers as it is that many want to experience the opening for the first time when they play the game. And there ARE a number of spoilers, as well as hints.

You pour years of your life into a game, and then send it out on its first day at school and hope it doesn't get pantsed. This is our life.

Good luck to the devs tonight. I've been that frantically f5-ing dev, but never on a 4-year long project. Even when the product is fantastic, the nerves (and the obsession for checking every single review / dwelling on any remotely negative ones) can never really be banished.

If any of the devs are reading this: take care of yourselves in the next few days and weeks.

Also, DA:I will kick butt. :)

About the starting area:

Hello @Mike_Laidlaw! Will we be able to go back to the very first game starting area or do we have to do all the exploring there right away?

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw 21m21 minutes ago
@katerinafm Any exploration area can be revisited at any time, including after the game ends.

Katerina FM ‏@katerinafm 11m11 minutes ago
@Mike_Laidlaw Ooh, nice! I was just wondering if the starting area with the breach and all was an exception. Good to know I can come back!

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw 10m10 minutes ago
@katerinafm Oh, that's not an exploration area. That's a story area. They usually close off. The Hinterlands would be an exploration area.

Katerina FM ‏@katerinafm 8m8 minutes ago
@Mike_Laidlaw Oh! Okay, good thing I cleared that up! I'll make sure to thoroughly explore it then before moving on. Thanks! Great stream!

Conclusion: People that hate missing stuff (like me) should probably not rush!

Thank god someone asked this question - my first couple of games of ME3 were spent staring at the ground. Glad to know that won't change.

(Although, it'll be easier with the ping mechanic).

Glad I could be of service! I like exploring every nook and cranny so I wanted to make sure what I could potentially miss if I rushed.

I'll be using the refresh function of my browser by pressing F5 several times, as gently as a watercraft smashing through the wall of a bathroom.

Because I'm in total. control. of. my. emotions.

...

Sigh... Who am I kidding?

Well I can say I never quite agree with everything and I come off as highly critical at times but for what is worth, I hope the devs and the bioware team in general, has lot of success and in the process takes home really good reviews of the game.

I am going to enjoy DA:I in 10 days but I sincerely hope it is a sentiment share by many.

Well I have a strong feeling it will be good reviews I typically am right when it comes to these things not saying that just because I like what I have seen I am thinking in the general light. Only way it will have negative reviews is people who go in without a open mind you have to go in playing with a clean slate pretty much know the story but dot set your expectations to the point they don't make sense.
