Congratulations on the great reviews Bioware.
I never doubted this would be a great game. Even those games which are hammered in this forum (DAII and ME3) are better than 95% of the other games out there. If you like party based games, look to no other than Bioware.

Why are fans obsessing over reviews? Reviewers are meant to be a guide. The player should ultimately decide the quality of a game his or herself. And as we all know gaming journalism isn't known for it's integrity in general (not speaking in this case, I'm sure DA:I will warrant the acclaim).
But damn, some folks in here are acting like they own EA stock. LOL

Several developers expressed their stress last night about the reviews going up today. People were just showing empathy for those devs. I know I've worked on several multi-year projects at work and people who aren't even on the IT side of things told me they were nervous for me the day before we flipped the switch.
To sum it up in a word: empathy.

Of course it does not determine the quality of the game and in the end your own opinion will the most important to yourself, but it's still good to see the game that developers worked really hard for many years and many fans have waited for get praised and acknowledged by not just critics, but from most of other people too.
However I do not see obsessing over reviews as a healthy attitude towards games as well.

FINE!, I'll pre-order.
Also: Grats to the dev team, I figured the game would be generally well received, it seems to be blowing people away though (and not just the shills!). I know you guys have a lot of talent, and heart, it's good to see it both realized and recognized.

Unfortunately the reviews are more important than one would like. There have been several instances where developers have expressed concern over their metacritic score as that may decide whether or not they will be able to continue working on other projects. DAI recieveing great scores is good news for me as that hopefully means that Bioware will be allowed to continue working on the IP and take the time they need instead of having to rush out a sequel next year. Obviously sales and fan response will ultimately play a big roll in the continuation of the franchise as well but as for now things are looking good.
So congratulations to the devs! I hope you get some well deserved rest. Looking forward to playing your game next week and loose myself in Thedas once more.

Its a shame they wont hit 90% on metacritic tho... I just cant fathom how they ended up with such a weak plot as everyone is saying. Its indeed mysterious how they filled the game up with cliched tropes.

There a deeper motive.
Three years of whiny youtube and game site comments threads:
'DA sucks, DA makes you gay, sh*t graphics, sh*t story, red/blue/green, etc...'
Blah, blah, blah: Reviews in your face !

Fun fact: Anders was my Dragon Age II love interest. As you may know, Anders is kind of an *******.
I don't miss Anders. Another fun fact: I never got Iron Bull into bed in Inquisition. Probably for the best. He's got huge horns.
You know what they say about huge horns? ![]()

Mysterious? Have you played like… basically any BioWare game save (shockingly) DA2? They're pretty much all rags-to-riches chosen-one save-the-world narratives where you fight great evil for great justice?
BioWare's strengths have always been in characterisation, never in originality in overarching plots. Some of the smaller narratives are often complex and interesting, but the overall narratives are never especially astounding in terms of originality. DAO had its Archdemon and its Blight, ME had its Reapers, KotOR had a Sith Lord, BG had Sarevok and Irenicus.

This is fantasy with Dragons, not a political thriller. That said, I have no doubt that some of the plot concerns are down to the reviewer not having played enough of the game for the pay-offs. Endings aside, you could rush through ME3 and get some pretty miserable results for the Krogan, Geth, party members etc.
I don't have the time to compare, maybe someone has already done it. Some of the review scores for DAI are lower than the same game sites scores for DA2 !
Because the world has changed somewhat.
Games sites are trying to claw back some semblance of review credibility, so totally gushing reviews are likely to be tempered.
Remember all the DA2 scores, ME3 scores. EA has its PR issues. Many low-lifes are emboldened and shielded by 'BioWare made me gay' arguments.

I never trust Metacritic because it always make me lose my faith on games.
There's nothing to be ashamed for liking a game. When did the community turned into self-proclaimed critics society? Sad days.

That's the biggest issue I have with Metacritic: some publishers will tie the metacritic score to bonuses for the dev. Obsidian, for example, missed out on a nice bonus because New Vegas got an 84 metacritic score.....when minimum for the bonus was an 85 (despite NV being, IMO, a far superior game to FO3).

And what does that have to do with a game having a good story? Exactly, nothing. A "this is a fantasy with dragons" doesn't justify anything. And considering the elements that DAI delves into (politics being one of them) it is expected that a story pulls it out in a good manner.

Exactly. Professional reviews are an incentive to the developers not the fans or the consumers. Obviously, fans in particular have a vested interest because we want more DA games. But I'm not breaking out the champagne bottles either. My reward is a great game if the reviewers came correct and possibly more great games down the line.
Still keeping hype in check though. Hopefully the reviews will translate to a more lenient hands-off approach from EA towards BW in the future.

DA:I could have a great story. Some reviewers have said the story was great, others have said it was weak. You wont know for sure what you opinion is until you play.
